Hello. I am a music theorist and composer. There is a loose consensus (especially in Classical music) that D is the "cheeriest" of keys. To me it resembles the color orange, and is the shape of a trapezoid. A good example of the happiness of D-major is Hayden's Symphony No. 6 in D Major--his self-titled, "Sunrise Symphony." I'm not sure what key Burt Bacharach wrote "Magic Moment's" in, but i'm assuming it's in D, as sung my Perry Como in about 1958. In the middle of the song the joy gets kicked-up a notch and modulates in mid-theme from D-major to E-major, where it finally comes to a close. Therefore, it is quote fascinating that Erasure sung it in E-major---almost as if taking-off where Perry Como left off. Of further interest is that E-major, rather than pleasant giddyness, is the key of self-awareness and a mental awakening to consciousness: Yellow; The Light of Christ. And then then Erasure faithfully modulates to F#, grass-green---the key of growth and transition. (Dare we say transfiguration?). I'm curious if the Erasure song was used in some sort of blood-bath scene in the Lord of Illusions. (Did someone say "Lord?"). Red, as blood, is the opposite of Green. Not a coincidence.

Not quite, the film's protagonist arrives outside of LA's Magic Castle to head up an investigation and research the local magician/illusionist scene. Less than the first minute plays at full volume for a few establishing shots, and then it fades to the background as dialog cuts in.

It's been nine days after Burt Bacharach's death, and I have just finished my "Magic Moments Remix" video. Started it last month, and was hoping--praying--that he's see it before his passing. Now he's gone as of last week, and i'm 9 days late! We lift up our glass to Erasure and Burt Bacharach. Truly great songwriters have been given a gift. And it doesn't come around often.
