Vince Clarke answered his own question of why Erasure is such a success: "I can't sing and Andy can't play the computer." They complement each other like a married couple.
@jeffjohnson86242 жыл бұрын
you'd think Vince had heard Happy Happy People by Yazoo. Blondie's Rapture had come out by then but not Erasure's cover of Blondie's Rapture, Vince sings the cool rap part. 🎶☮️🖖But they do compliment each other well. 🎶☮️🖖
@rbrtck Жыл бұрын
@@jeffjohnson8624 Vince used to sing lead for Composition of Sound, but stopped when Dave Gahan joined and they became Depeche Mode. Vince then sang backup only, and was prominent in that role, but then he almost entirely stopped singing after he left Depeche Mode. He sang Yazoo's "Happy People" by himself, did some spoken word in a few other Yazoo songs, and rapped in Erasure's cover of Blondie's "Rapture" (Andy said he would get Vince to perform vocally, per fan interest in that). Those are the only exceptions to his vocal silence that I'm aware of. That's odd, because I don't think he sounds bad. Apparently Vince himself does, though.

Ditto....a period in time. A chunk of your life. A piece of your history...then time rumbled on. I guess to do with "HOW LONG HAVE WE GOT LEFT BEFORE IT'S LIGHTS OUT"....have i left anything worthwhile for my troubles? YUP....SONIC FOXX MUSIC...every single lyric on every single song..and sang GHOSTED by THE CRUE. Never sang before..or recorded anything...but GHOSTED seemed to work. Stay strong..keep breathing. I was 12 y.o. when inside the bus back to home from School. This guy with a huge boombox playing from the Radio Station, a song called A LITTLE RESPECT the 12" remix in Brazil. That day was the day my heart went deep into Electronic Music FOREVER. I never forgot....!!! That was THE ONLY SONG that changed my life

What a great interview with Vince! I sort of always heard and liked their music as teenager and student , but today February 2024, I’m even a bigger fan! It all has to do with melancholy as soon as I hear these keyboard riffs and the sound of Andy Bell’s voice! God..!! I wish I could bring the 80’s and 90’s back again!

1991 Chorus album from Erasure is without a doubt the most played album of my life and is a total masterpiece. Unfortunatley as interesting as this interview was nothing was spoke about on the Chorus album. Erasure were right in their wheelhouse on that album. Innocents was special no doubt about it but Chorus was the canopy in the trees of all Erasure albums.

Still today not even Abba or Dm have come close to the amount of "perfect" songs that Erasure have released. I just wish that today they would try to make an album with the melodic quality as hey did until "Chorus". After Chorus its been a slow but steady decline of quality from Erasure, unfortunately.

Love most of what Vince has to say, however, it didn't sit right with me for him to poo-poo remixes and so on. Well, in the case of pop? yeh, it is generally true. Milk as much out of kids as you can before they move on or grow up. BUT, to say it as a blanket statement when not all scenes are like that, and many artists who produce decent remixes and E.P.s and 12''s and so on are actually doing something valid, and expressing, for instance with psychedelic music, how the same thing can be travelled through i9n so many ways, and istelf become an art. But yes, i do understand as a pop musician, he is talking about pop.
@mjg1544 Жыл бұрын
I totally disagree with Vince on remixes, especially remixes of the 80’s and 90’s. Another artist, producer, remixer, engineer can make their unique mark on a track, or at minimum add the additional production. Not to mention, he mentioned hating DJing at clubs, but I have seen Erasure twice, Andy on his solo tour and Vince DJing separately on tour at the Lizard Lounge in Dallas. Hypocrisy if you ask me. There are times I’m glad Vince left Depeche Mode. He had his distinct poppy sound and gave us Erasure and Yazoo, with so many good tracks and accompanying remixes. But Depeche Mode would not be the stadium selling behemoth and Tour-de-Force of Dave and Martin they are today, with Vince. It felt like it was a natural progression for music for both Vince to leave and Alan to leave….meant to be, if you will.
