Most people don't really appreciate the significance of this collaboration. If you grew up to this genre of music (Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Erasure...etc) this is like the founding fathers uniting.

@@drexlspivey5828 Neither DM nor Erasure were techno bands. DM was still synthpop whether or not Clake left! You could say early synthpop in general had a different sound, look at early OMD and Alphaville. Later eighties synthpop sound evolved into what you hear with New Order and Pet Shop Boys as well as DM and Erasure. Techno music at the time was a whole other genre which came into existence during the late eighties and nineties, mostly. And if you don't believe me, listen to Vince in this interview saying this is the first time he's delving into techno which has a very distinct sound from other synth music.

@@moreshige The original poster didn't mention anything about the style of music, he was talking about the fact it was Vince Clark and Martin Gore collaborating, they could have been making space jazz and his post would have been the same, it's not because it's techno that it's significant

Maybe that was the problem back in the day, in the absence of age, experience, and maturity (such as it is). :) If it wasn't that or a missing left big toe, then it must have been the fiver that Martin owed Vince that broke them up. Yeah, that's it! Martin had forgotten, Vince was too introverted and brooding back then to ever bring it up, and Martin was too introverted and brooding to ever ask what was wrong. It wasn't about the five quid, per se, though, it was about the whole principle of the thing. Vince couldn't stand it anymore and left. Now that he's older and, dare I say it?, wiser, he simply asked for his money back. Things could have been so different! ;)
