Erdoğan’s election win: What does this mean for Turkey?

With the economy on its knees and a devastatingly slow response to a deadly earthquake - many thought President Erdoğan's time was up.

Last night - he showed them it wasn't.
But the election result also revealed Turkey is a deeply divided nation - as Erdogan beat his rival Kemal Kilicdaroglu with just 52 percent of the vote.
It's left the disparate opposition facing a rather uncertain future. But last night belonged to the President and his supporters - who flooded onto the streets.

For decades Turkey wanted to get closer to the EU and they were pretty much laughed at and given the finger, I remember in late 90s/early 00s the hopes Turks had but Erdogan understood EU will never allow them in EU (it was obvious) and became closer to his neighbours instead and became neutral towards countries half way across the world. I mean it's a land filled with history so of course alot of it's going to have a hybrid of old and new. Plus alot of cities do not want massive modern buildings which is why you rarely see Skyscrapers in Europe or middle eastern cities unless they're pretty new and out of the way from older distracts. For example Izmir is pretty high tech looking while İstanbul looks much older. As someone who's been to Turkey it's 100% a modern nation idk how you got the idea that Turkey is a backwards nation.
