Istanbul Airport - as the new project is named - will take over from the old Ataturk Airport, which will close to commercial traffic.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says work on the airport will continue until 2028, by which time it's expected to be serving more than 200 million passengers a year.

Some of these billions could go to Maltepe, instead of a new airport. When I came to the ottogar in Istanbul, I saw rusty, dangerous buildings. Not saying a new airport is bad, but we already have Ataturk and Sabiha gökçen. The 12+ billion dollars could have been spent on much more needed places in Istanbul.

This airport will create 250.000 jobs and the cointry will earn 22 billion dollars in 10 years. Thats what you call investing. You get more money back than you have spent. The economy will grow at least with 5% because of this

Busses are a dying breed. The bus industry will soon topple as it becomes cheaper to just take a flight instead of taking an 8-hour bus ride. And despite that, there are projects to renew Bus Terminals all over Turkey. Instead of investing in these bus terminals, Turkey needs to invest more in developing its rail network.

@@PrimorisOrdo No, not ottogars, but buildings near them. For example when I took kamilkoc bus to Sabiha gökçen there were huge holes in the roads and rusty buildings. Not saying all Istanbul is bad but 12+$ dollars spent on an airport sounds overkill to me.
