Turkish voters delivered a resounding defeat to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's party in local elections held over the weekend. Turkiye's main opposition party won more than 37% of the votes against Erdogan's 35%. They also swept major Turkish cities including Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. The mayor of Istanbul, who is touted as a possible challenger to Erdogan, declared an end to "one-man rule" after the election victory. This is the first time Erdogan's party has been defeated in a nationwide election since his rise to power almost 21 years ago. What does it mean for the Turkish president's future in politics? You are misinformed. The opposition took ANkara and Istanbul in 2019 after 25+ years of right wing (AKP and others before) rule. The main opposition was relatively successful in touristic areas and never really got more than 25% of the vote since 1977 in any elections local or federal. Now they have won cities that have "never" voted for the opposition party CHP . For the first time CHP won more cities than AKP and leads the overall vote with 37.7 versus AKP's 35.

Let me tell you why; Erdoğan and his party are the best out of all for democracy and economy in Turkiye. Erdoğan's lost some votes because of the economy as many people in Turkiye have been suffering economically, and those people think this is only happening in Turkiye in the world. The inflation was over 100% when this so-called non-religious, secular party CHP was in power. Erdoğan brought the inflation down to %5 - 15 , so they enjoyed the prosperity and comfort with Erdoğan. All the USA leaders attend church, the money " God Bless America" , Parliament school openings are with religious ceremonies, the country is full of religious schools including as that many cults but when a chosen Turkish leader attends mosque and takes a proposal to the Parliament for religious schools to be allowed in Turkiye as well as in Europe, the USA even so called secular France have thousands of religious schools, Erdoğan is called extremist Islam. What a hypocrite you are! Look at yourself in the mirror, clean your own garden as we have seen your genocide as well as genocide supporters. Close your own religious schools, stop letting your leaders attend religious ceremonies, and only then, we might take your intentions as positive that you care about Turkiye and the people of Turkiye. Now, women with religious belief work in every area, industries - pilots, police, engineers, doctors, chemists, scientists, tv personalities, news readers ( also weren't allowed to appear on TV before), lawyers... There were so many Korean, Chinese, Communist Russia USSR type of things. Not attending church, not allowing women to have education because of having religious beliefs, wearing a head scarf, or not allowing religious education, religious schools is not democracy but dictatorship. CHP name that type system of government as democracy. CHP is dictatorship, comminism. The voters of CHP don't know even the meaning of democracy. One-sided democracy I.e banning religions or anything relating to religion, banning nations running from war, atrocities is neither secular nor democratic but ultra nationalism ( as with Modi, Netanyahu) or Comminist. If Erdoğan loses the next election, I worry about refugees. Probably, CHP will do Modi style! In democracies, people are allowed to choose religion and also practice it. The UK is a democracy. CHP is Modi without the religion.

Good thing is this that there are still 4 more years before elections. It will also force Erdogan to re think his strategy. If he can turn around the economy, it will be fine. CHP is definitely a party of left wingers. My other fear is this that if they come to power, all the progress in defense industry might go down the drain.
