Im so glad you've compiled this video together. These retrospectives are the most interesting takes on Ergo Proxy on YT and really satisfy my fixation w/ the story. Most of the videos I've found are barely disguised plot summaries w/ a Nietzsche name drop.

Thanks! I'm glad to have brought some attention to a great obscure anime memory, especially one that is actually a lot more pleasant and hopeful than often given credit for.

My favorite anime, I'd love to see you talk about Monster and Requiem for the Phantom, two other favorites of my Top 5
@obscureanimememories66974 ай бұрын
I'm glad I could talk about Ergo Proxy! I've wanted to talk about Monster for a while, though I'm still trying top figure out the logistical details. My current format and work/life balance allow me to complete a retrospective on a 26 episode series in about 2-3 months. Seeing as Monster is almost 3 times this length, I would need to figure out how to efficiently get my ideas across without spending half a year on it. I hope to talk about it one day, though I would need to solve these logistical issues and I can't guarantee anything soon.

finally someone explained it simply

I never understood why Ergo Proxy is held to be to complex to explain when its really a character story and a lot of the literal lore, while interesting, isn't actually super important. Sometimes the style of the series obscures the substance of the series it seems. Thanks for watching!

I wonder if "Romdeau" isn't some wordplay on "dormo" (Esperanto for "sleep", according to Google Translate), or domo for "home"...

That wouldn't surprise me, though I have no idea if so. Thanks for watching!

Ergo proxy: what was and is, and will be in anime

I'd like to think that even if the series is a bit obscure and sometimes misunderstood, its ultimately a positive tale that will, in some guise, live on.

This is a production where the whole is less than the sum of the parts imo. While there are many moments i loved, it's more enjoyable to hear someone discuss the premise in a concise way than to watch this disjointed and episodic story unfold. It's almost frustrating how poorly screentime is spent when the lore is this interesting.

I think Ergo Proxy's approach to story telling and how disjointed it can feel at times can be quite divisive. I never minded it, but I don't think that changes the fact the context of the narrative can feel loose at times. I don't know if the piece sought to be divisive but its structure makes it to some extent and there is a point to be made about the possibility of artistic decisions getting in the way of the point of the art itself. Thanks for watching!
