Aye, it was a lovely touch to what was already a perfect denouement for a pretty heavy season. Me and an old housemate of mine had a long-running joke about how low a bar it is to be a good living parent in an anime, with Isshin Kurosagi arguably being one of the better ones despite regularly trying to kick his son out the window, but Jiro's parents really threw off the curve here.

Eri was probably the one character that made me genuinely almost cry for. Years of experimentation, then Deku's idea and Jirou's powerful voice was able to tear down the little bit of influence that Kai had, and Eri finally got to feel like a normal kid. I swear, Class 1-A is like a giant collection of older siblings for Eri to cherish.

Words cannot describe how much I needed the School Festival Arc, especially after the Shie Hassaikai Arc. A much more relaxed vibe, time spent with Class 1-A, a very low stakes conflict, a very likable pair of villains, this performance, a happy ending for Eri, everything. Shie Hassaikai was so intense to watch, not to mention everything that came before it, and this was just so nice to see.

To be honest, when Midoriya was fighting Gentle Criminal, I don't know, but it felt so intense. The fight had low stakes, but high stakes at the same time. The stakes were the festival and everyone having fun, including Eri, as low stakes as it is physically, it just became one of the highest stake fights in the series in terms of emotional meaning imo. I love this arc so much!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the fact that getting Eri to smile is the main goal is great for this arc. It's simple, but overwhelmingly emotional and thematic in how it relates to her healing as well as giving the rest of the cast a breather after the previous arc. - Bonus points for Mirio thinking of Nighteye and how his mentor would be happy seeing the girl safe, both physically and mentally now.

It also adds a layer to being a hero, the running theme of the series. It's not just about saving people and looking cool, but as Sir Nighteye said, "a world without smiles and humor has no bright future." Saving Eri's smile's a visual illustation of that, hence how important that is to Deku and Mirio.

That and smiling is a side effect of your brain tensing up some muscles after experiencing what the brain considers joyful, I paraphrased a whole ton, but what I'm saying is that smiling is partly done unconsciously. And eitherway it was a "in the moment smile" It happens all the time in the world People in very critical depression, also laugh and smile genuinely from time to time. It doesn't mean they are out of depression, far from it, but that they are stuck in the moment, and that for that brief moment, they forgot all of the things that are dragging them down and smiled or laughed unconsciously. And this is a lot easier to accomplish on a child, since children live in the moment, and it's easier for them to forget what made them sad because they don't spin It around in their heads like how teenagers or adults would do. And it's also obviously a scene that exaggerates reality. It's not fully realistic, but it is completely based on reality. It's also good enough that they added this ark to begin with, since they could've easily just made her act like a completely normal child after being saved without any continuation. But the creator decided to give it some continuation, and show us that she wasn't fully healed despite being physically saved.

A lot of anime parents are also uncaring and hardly care about the dangerous things their children get into. Others are also exactly like real life parents where they're restrictive and sheltering. MHA just happens to be one of the anime out there that have supportive parents shown and brought to the forefront, but also has parents like Endeavor, but even he's trying to change.
