One of the most important matches in wrestling history, along with Rock V Hogan, watching it gives me chills not just because of what happens, but the wider context of how it surely helped WWE in the Monday Night Wars and took the business to a new level. Why was it remembered? 1. People always would visualise in their mind if someone fell from the top of the cage...noone ever expected to actually see it! 2. It was the first time something of that size and magnitude had ever been done 3. It was 'real'. By that I mean the table was real, it wasn't gimmicked to break easy or had padding to cushion the fall which all future stunts would clearly have. While future stunts have their own elements of danger there is a minimisation of damage applied that wasn't here. 4. The fact he got up despite having a separated shoulder, being knocked unconscious, dislocated jaw, lost teeth, bruised ribs, punctured wounds from thumbtacks and I swear I read in his book that he had some kind of damage of to his kidney that isn't listed in online mentions of his injuries. People SAW his pain and fortitude to push through. These are the reasons this match is legendary.

Problem with bare knuckle fighting is it’s actually worse for the fighters. A lot of people assume the gloves are to protect the opponent, but the true purpose is to protect the hands of the fighters. All it takes is a slight misjudgment and the knuckles are wrecked. Traditionally, bare knuckle fights ended up being grab fests.

Bare knuckle is actually way safer since you can body shot with no problem as long as you know how to throw a punch. Its throwing face shots that'll wreck your hands meaning there will basically be no concussions. Plus the gloves add danger as they're almost a pound which add a lot of force to the hits.

An easy answer for how Russo got away with his garbage tv in WCW when Eric couldn’t so stuff that was as salacious: Russo did what he wanted to do when the cameras were rolling. And his contract suppozedly said he could. He probably got away with it because the execs didn’t actually watch the show and were only told about the bad conent when people complained. Eric actually listened to the directives from the higher ups and respected their authority. As Russo's behavior and total lack of self reflection 25 years later shows, he doesnt respect anyone else's opinion or POV. But that's just my conjecture.
