10 years ago I listened to this album every day. Music that lifts from depression.

THE BEST #1. Does anyone has any doubts that Clapton is GOD?

Thanks for the post. There were two shows that night - the photo's are almost always from the first show, where Clapton is wearing a white waistcoat, missing from the second show (the first show was added after massive demand); the recording was made from the second show, which was the original scheduled show - I know that because I recorded the entire thing on a Phillips cassette player hidden in a pocket. I think there's some misconception about who's playing lead in some places - Ronny Wood was *really* on form that night and the tight, fast lead stuff you hear in many places is Ronnie Wood, not Clapton - this was decades before Wood became a Daily Mail punchline and a Rolling Stones self-parody. Clapton's guitar playing was frankly not that great and on more than one occasion he began lead breaks in the wrong key - I was expecting the Cream version of Clapton - that immediacy to his playing was long gone, I realize now that was the case even when he was playing with the Dominos. However, his vocals were good. It was known that Clapton had been reclusive for a few years, it wasn't public knowledge at that time that he was in a heroin funk, so looking back he did OK all things considered. Overall no one was exactly asking for their money back, everyone was aware they were watching something special even if the music wasn't over-rehearsed - I don't think anyone really cared. Seeing Clapton again after he'd been missing for 3 years was like seeing an apparition. I still can't believe that some entity (Beeb/Whistle Test?) didn't film it.

Thanks for posting. Solid performance even in the 'dark' years of clapton. It was one of the first albums i bought back in the 80ies and i still enjoy it today

magnificent clapton solo - easily as good as the studio version. also amazing given his lack of fitness at the time and played on the Lucy Beatles guitar

Thanks for posting this mate! Man, vocally he sounds so very weak & is just carried along on the thick juicy wave of totally harmonic distortion layed down by all those other players....but at 1:00 when the song elevates us into the middle section it's like the clouds of heaven part & he just stomps on the pedal &just plays like a towering fuckin' God. I owned this LP&heard this a million times & it still today brings tears 2 my eyes. I bow down to this level of achingly bluespowered greatness.

Anyone know where the Eric Clapton George Harrison 1971 version is. I can't find it anywhere and really does rock the house down for 7 minutes

Alice Ormsby-Gore: Five o’clock and there I am, sewing a six-inch piece of material in the back of the trousers with black cotton. Pattie Boyd: I was sitting in the audience with George, Ringo, Elton John, Joe Cocker and Jimmy Page. Eric didn’t look well. Eric Clapton: For the first few numbers I was in a daze. Then it suddenly clicked in and I began to get some confidence. Ronnie Wood: We did the Hendrix hit Little Wing and lots of Eric’s big songs like Let It Rain, Badge, After Midnight and Bell Bottom Blues. By the time we reached the end of the set with Key To The Highway and Crossroads, no one had any doubts: Eric was back.
