Wow, I learned so much a week after buying my EC Blackie Strat. You really articulated the Woman Tone idea and played it with the Ibanez Tube Screamer. I really labored over the color before ordering mine, which is black. I am agreeing with you on the white, with a tidge of buyers remorse. You make a good point. If I could have compared both in a shop, I might have chosen white. Our shops here had none at all, so I read guitar forums. And what might look great (like the white) on KZbin may not be so, when you see it personally. Nice that your student lent you the white one so you could evaluate. Blackie is still a great choice, but yes the white... Yes, the V neck totally threw me as well, and I found it hard to play. I was hoping it was a D. But you encourage me to *keep at it* so my depression is lifting. Thank you. Yes, you would be and are- a fine guitar instructor and your students are fortunate to have you in their local area. Cheers! And thank you.

Also, the thing you called the mid-boost is actually the tbx-tone control which adds bass or treble (how you used it, it adds treble). The knob below it is the mid-boost, which adds 25db. And the signature amp he uses is not the tremolux but the twinolux.

I just received my Olympic White Eric Clapton Stratocaster. Took it out of it's case and tuned it, then played for about 10 minutes...I have another ash body Strat with Texas Specials, James Burton Signature Tele and a BAJA Tele. This Clapton Strat just may end up being my favorite guitar. The neck is perfect and I have gotten used to the vintage frets since playing the JB Tele. Right now the Baja Tele is #1, but I love this new Strat!

Rele Shred! Actually he is correct, it’s called TBX, it has a center detention, and rotated it cuts or boosts lower or upper frequencies. And it is actually a passive tone control. The other gain pot for the 25db boost amplifier board. Don’t care for small frets too much string chatter. Most folks agree the Gold Lace sensor pickups used in earlier models were better sounding than the new noiseless fender pickups.

I completely agreee, the fretts are ridiculously small and can be an issue for bending the strings as expected when playing the blues. For many years now, Clapton's strats are built with Dunlop 6105 fret model.

Good video. I bought a used EC Blackie about 4 yrs ago. During the course of playing gigs I've been thru LP's, PRS's, Music Man ... guitars. At one point I think Blackie stayed in the case for almost 2 years as I was searching for a heavier tone, but every time I played it a set or two, I always asked myself "why do I even bother to try other guitars?" The V neck had not real effect on my playing. I have small hands too. This is the most comfortable guitar to play, as are most Strats, and the DB boost adds a little, but I usually don't go past about 4 or 5 so as not to muddy it up and still use my OCD or TubeS. You can't go wrong with this guitar, Hey, if it's good enough for Eric . . . Rock on!

Dyce that was the best guitar review I have seen on the web ever honestly I can't believe I sat through the entire thing ( your playing didn't hurt either) I am a Middle Class Father of 2 so for me spending $1,000 on a guitar is a luxury not often available to me. However having decided to sell my 2002 SG Standard I now find myself in need of replacing my go-to #1 guitar and it is down to a 2014 White EC Strat in MINT cond. He wants 1,100 and a 2012 Gibson Mid-Town Custom He wants 950 . I know if I play that Strat I'll take it home I need to try a Mid-Town 1st... Seriously kick ass review!!!

I know what you mean about the difference in sound, but, to me it isn't sterile. I think a better description is "contemporary" sounding, as opposed to more "vintage" sounding passive pickups. I agree with you about the bridge pickup sounding best. Last interview I read with Clapton he said he uses 10's. Good video though. Very nice playing. I'm now your newest subscriber.

I wonder what the guitar would sound like when used witha Treble booster pedal and the Mid boost and TBX control on? Great playing too!
@vanillebudding10 жыл бұрын
Nice review! But the pickups aren't active, the mid-boost is. And also, the boost is never off. Even if you set it to 0, it's still on. But at zero it gives more of a treble boost than a mid-boost. Also, Clapton uses 0.10, I'm absolutely sure of that.

OK since I own a Clapton model myself let me correct you want something my friend. The first tone number is called the TBX tone control. That’s not a med boost. The mid boost is the second tone control The TV ask tone control stands for trouble and base expander. From 0 to 5 is your average garden variety ordinary Stratocaster and from five all the way up to 10 is if you had extras. And there is a notch in the middle of the knob separating the two. And that’s a 25 decimal med boost that you use.

how efficient is it getting the thumb over the top at the open position for say a "F" chord (c shape with your fingers, w/ the thumb fretting at fret 1, do you have easy clearance w/ a soft v?) , as opposed to playing it on a modern c neck profile (assuming nut width of 1.650 on both profiles). I have a MIM strat that has a modern C, and to my dismay, none of the up to date american strats have modern C necks (or 1.650 nut widths, i always see 1.685) and I don't have access to try out any of those guitars. My only chance is to go to fender . com and use their "mod shop" and specify a modern c neck, but the only one they have goes from modern c at the nut, to a D at the heel. And im hoping that the neck profile they have that starts with a modern c at the nut may hopefully have a 1.650 nut width, because on my MIM i can just barely pull off 1st fret thumb over top F chords. (its easier in the middle portion of the neck) So I mean if i had to give up even a centimeter in nutwidth or neck depth, it will matter to a point where i may no longer be able to play an open F chord w/ my thumb over the top. But i mean if it's overall easier to do thumb over style playing w/ a soft V, i suppose I could chance it and try a soft V neck. Is a soft V "chunkier" than a modern c? or do they feel the same just about? It's not only frustrating not having access to guitars i can hold in my hand, but i try and find comparison videos on the internet and I find NOTHING! I would think this would be a big deal for strat players! Thanks many any advice you can offer me, I appreciate it.

I never got this signature guitar malarkey. Having an axe signed by a major player makes me cringe. I don't know why, it's a marketing ploy surely to get extra bucks from fans of big star players. Anyway why would you even want to sound like another player? He's already nailed his style and tone and millions want to copy it! Why not sound like yourself? I am influenced by lots if famous players and I love guitars for the sake of guitars but signature series is a modern thing by guitar companies that started in the 80s I think. The guys in the 60s that innovated had only the good ol' stock axes to grind away on and now you can buy a slice of it. And aged or distressed guitars, don't get me started, as Zappa said "shut up and play your guitar"!!!!
@tomthx58048 жыл бұрын
In this case, it is not just that Clapton put his name on it. He had his tech install a mid boost circuit that gives a 25db boost, so it sounds unlike other fenders. Furthermore, some players want to sound like Clapton sounded in certain situations.

I'm not hating on your playing or anything of that nature, your a good player. This review is simply ridiculously down playing one of the best guitars out there. The versatility of this guitar lets you play in pretty much any style. This guitar also has a nasty rude sound with the proper settings and amplification. To say any strat of the wall or those bullshit custom strats compare is ludicrous. Simply one of the best guitars out there and who cares what size strings clapton plays kids these days.
