The context of the song itself came from the tragedy with his son. Beautifully haunting, sung with true feeling. Oh man ...sigh

"Tears in Heaven" is a 1992 ballad sung by Eric Clapton about the pain of losing his four-year-old son, who fell from the window on the 53rd floor of his mother's apartment in Manhattan, New York City. The song was written by Clapton and Will Jennings, originally for the 1991 film Rush.

@@SimplyKSimone yes the boy was at a friend of his mothers and leaned up against a screeen and it popped out and he fell , Clapton then wrote tears in heaven later as he also had lost 2 of his roadies and fellow muscian friend stevie ray vaughn in a helicopter accident 5 months before he lost his son
@bostonwhofan3 жыл бұрын
@@robertdocholliday66sadler The crazy part about the helicopter tragedy is Eric Clapton had been on that helicopter and strapped into his seat. Stevie Ray had business to attend to back at the hotel where the bands were staying so he asked Clapton if he wouldn't mind catching the next helicopter back to the hotel. Eric obliged and left the aircraft. Stevie Ray Vaugh climbed aboard, strapped himself in, and 5 minutes later everyone onboard the helicopter was dead after it crashed into a hillside. Eric Clapton would certainly have died that day. I don't know how he stayed sane after having those 2 catastrophe's happen in his life in the span of half a year.

@@bostonwhofan yeah def would mess with your mind imo. Wonder if he had relapsed into drugs after that . I knew the story that he was supposed to be in that copter . Just like Waylon Jennings was supposed to be on plane that killed buddy Holly and big bopper and ritchie valens

It was released in 1991, it was used in the movie Rush. Those actors are Jason Patric and Jennifer Jason Leigh. They play two undercover narcotic cops who become addicts and failing to get evidence from a drug kingpin. Eric Clapton did the score for that movie.

Robert Plant (lead vocalist of Led Zeppelin) experienced a similar tragedy when his 5 year old son Karac died from a stomach virus while Plant was touring with Led Zeppelin in the United States in July on 1977. The band immediately postponed the rest of the tour and flew back home to the UK to mourn the tragic death of Karac. Robert Plant wrote a song recorded by Led Zeppelin in tribute to Karac called "All Of My Love". The song is still played in heavy rotation on classic rock radio stations in 2021.

This was from 1991 for a movie soundtrack to a movie called Rush. He wrote this song and another song. The other song is called Circus and it’s just instrumental. He played it on his unplugged album. If you have another request segment please play Tears In Heaven from that album and show. I learned to play this song while it was huge on the charts and winning like 8 Grammys. Never did I imagine I would go through the same thing years later, but I did in 2014 when I lost my son. He played guitar as well and I taught him how to play this song. It has, like a lot of other songs I taught him, a special meaning to it. I know what it is to go through the pain just the same as Clapton but, I could not use my grief like he did and make such a masterpiece. I truly love this song. It will stand the test of time.
