Do you know what it is that Clapton always had musically, still has and did from day one? Do you know what Ginger Baker said made Clapton extra special as a musician? Clapton has perfect timing and rhythm. It’s a gift, not every great guitarist has but Clapton does. It’s perfectly abundant here. His playing and his tone is always otherworldly as it is here although a lot of nobody’s might think otherwise.

I sincerely hope Eric Clapton actually reads all the specialists advice on guitars and amps. A bit like those football fans with their bellies full of beer criticising the players on the field....... This is the real stuff....hard driven blues at its best !

to all people commenting about the bad tone: there is no bad les paul, there is no bad amp and he doesnt need a treble booster. he chose to sound like this insistently by playing an unusual bass note/chord combination. you just like it or not. i personally like it!!!!!!!!!! love that all the way dirty style

Anton Doornekamp You hit the nail on the head man, Eric never does anything without a reason. Around this time he got a small blues combo together, going for an authentic, down and dirty style. The munchkins commenting on here, don't know their ass from their elbow.

I like this steaming ritm and sound which does honor the blues as it was played in a lot of smoky joints in the south a long time ago (just guessing). Yeah, I completely dig what you're saying and I know he's respected by a lot of people. I feel the same way about Jimmy Page and Brian May so I really get that. His playing just doesn't appeal to me so I get a little peeved when people call him "Blues Man" or "Guitar God". Unless you we're born Black, in the south, it he early part of the century, you're NOT a Blues Man. George Carlin said once that "It's not enough to know which noted to play. You gotta know why those notes NEED to be played".

@nebanuk12 жыл бұрын
Ya, in fact he recorded every album he made until 1970 with a Gibson (barring Five Live Yardbirds, which was recorded with the band's Tele). Bluesbreakers was a '60 Les Paul. Fresh Cream was a Les Paul as well, but a different one as his '60 was stolen. Disraeli Gears he used a Les Paul Deluxe and his famous Fool SG. Wheels of Fire he used all Gibsons, including his famed ES-335, which he also used for Goobye Cream and exclusively for Blind Faith.
@gustavonobregadossantos12234 жыл бұрын
He was known for using more often his SG right?
@nebanuk4 жыл бұрын
@@gustavonobregadossantos1223 No. he used that solely with Cream and only during a very specific time frame. He is famous for it, but it is not a widely used guitar by Eric.
@gustavonobregadossantos12234 жыл бұрын
@@nebanuk oh cool, I don't know that. And do you know why after so many amazing song and success he decided to make the chance for single coils and the stratocaster? Was simply due to his admiration for Hendrix?
@nebanuk4 жыл бұрын
@@gustavonobregadossantos1223 That’s a pretty complicated question. He started collecting and playing Strats earlier than we see them appearing on records. He has stated that he remembered images of Buddy Holly and listening the Buddy as a teen, and wanted to go back to that idea of a man and his guitar. I think that his musical aim was changing as well, and he wanted to embrace roots music and roots sounds more. He played a lot with Delaney and Bonnie during the Blind Faith tour, and they really encouraged his singing more and his embrace of idea of a solo artist with a working man’s instrument, which he viewed as the Stratocaster. He was definitely influenced by Hendrix, but also Buddy Guy.
@gustavonobregadossantos12234 жыл бұрын
@@nebanuk very interesting, thanks for answering. I don't play guitar, so I don't know what would the stratocaster has to offer that The Les Paul or SG can't. And it's been decades no since the started playing the stratocaster. Once he switched to the Strat, he switched for good, he never came back to Gibson. He is known for playing a stratocaster, but some of his best work were made playing a Gibson (maybe his best work, Cream fans would say)

There are a number of unusual aspects of this performance - he plays a Les Paul with a capo and without a pick. @andrew71ify Heard about the Clapton model too... But I think it's a 335, not a LP...this LP seems to be just a reguler '60 reissue... Clapton played a '60 LP with the Yarbirds and John Mayall...
