Haha I'm glad you noticed! There's still something missing from the Marshall lead tone IMO, but I'll have to figure out what in the future. The original tone that mine was modeled after sounds more "three-dimensional" to me. I've gotten pretty good at using the Kemper to great effect for all kinds of tones however, so if you liked the sounds on display in this video you should subscribe to the channel. I'll be doing more covers of Eric's work, in addition to other bands and originals in the future. :)

Thanks, man! I dressed up as Eric for Halloween when I recorded this; but I suck at editing videos, so it took a few days to make this video presentable being my first time using more than one camera angle and only my second time syncing up direct input audio with the video as opposed to using the phone mics' audio. Yeah, I recorded this with two phones on tripods. 😅 Anyways, if you liked it, please subscribe! I think you'll like my other videos to come as much as this one. :)

The “patience” that you hear/feel is EJ playing behind the beat. He is a MASTER of this - creating the illusion of subtle variations in tempo by anticipating the beat or letting it slip slightly past him. It’s this combined with rhythmic variation (straight vs swung notes and all the places in between) and volume dynamics that explains why some people can play the same notes as him with the same tone but just sound robotic in comparison.

@@BondiJames Did you use a MXR 1500 for that initial vamp/repeat at the start or do you have another pedal that does that? I've always said that my dream is to wake up tomorrow and be able to play this version of this song as effortlessly as you have, but I know in reality it takes 10,000 hours to perfect and get to where you are, so to kudos to you for putting in the work!! Extremely impressed mate!

@@Traviswalknyc All I used in the video is a Kemper Stage. The built in delay has a “freeze” function which I then looped with the built in looper so it wouldn’t turn off when I switched to the lead tone patch until I decided to turn off the looper. And thanks again man, it did indeed take MANY hours of practice! I’m going to be posting more videos of original songs soon which I think you’ll enjoy, so look out for those.

Man You deserve a way more bigger recognition 5:10 i just cant help smiling, cause in the original live version here, it seems ej got stuck little bit ,I THINK ITS A PITY for its the most beautiful and moving part of the song !but you did it smoothly i reckon that even ej himself would be astonished!

I've watched Eric Johnson's Live video of this song from "Austin City Limits" many, many times, since seeing it when it first aired on TV for the first time on Austin City Limits. I know the song and the solos by heart. As a semi-professional guitarist myself, I'll just say simply that your version is Amazingly accurate, and I enjoyed it as much as the original by Eric himself! Well Done!!

@DisRespectoids It's become my biggest vice, I feel one can never have enough guitars, my wife has made somewhat of a demand I can buy any guitar I want but if I buy one I have to sell one . I stick to that rule about every other guitar I purchase, so it's like 2 for 1 .

For everyone who saw this video: 1. This man is marvelous at guitar, just amazing. 2. That's a Squier, for everyone who takes too personal with "I will only sound good with top label guitar" 3. Eric Johnson would be so proud of this performance... That's it! 🗿

If you haven't subscribed yet, I'd appreciate it a whole lot if you did! I'll be posting more videos of even better quality as I become more adept at creating videos and mixing the direct-input audio recordings I use in them/editing the videos themselves in terms of shot cuts/transitions.
