Eric is so versatile and respectful of his influences. Classy, great player.

Just saw him play this last night in a concert in Spokane WA - mesmerizing! Had no idea how far this song went back and that he played it 36 years ago.

Really? He’s a jazz guitar god
@ejtonefan Жыл бұрын
You must not listen to jazz. Wes is right up there with Coltrane, Davis and Clifford.
@MattFoleysGhost11 жыл бұрын
Really? The fact that any time a guitarist plays an octave it sounds like Wes seems like ample tribute.

Fawn Lebowitz - he probably ages well as he spend all day in doors out of the sun practicing on his git! His cartilages and tendons are probably less so preserved!

Why mimic the original? I rather listen to the original than someone mimicking it.

He copied Wes Montgomery's version of that song, including the solo, note for note. He even played some of Herbie Hancock's piano fills.

sgcim It's a cover, friend.
@sgcim9569 жыл бұрын
In jazz, you don't 'cover' a tune by copying the improvisation of the original artist note for note! You usually copy the melody, but usually you don't copy the arrangement, and you NEVER copy the improvisation of the original artist note for note.

It's a tribute giving respect to the original arrangement you bastard.
@sgcim9564 жыл бұрын
@@ryleitdept Yeah, he played the arrangement great, but nobody plays the improvised solo, too. He made up for it by playing his own solo the next time he was recorded playing "DHOTG" live, but it wasn't half as good as Wes' solo, IMIMHO. He should probably stick to fusion.
