Skip seems to ignore the fact that the Patriots defense shut out opponents in the 2nd half. You can't win a game if the defense keeps the opponents out of the endzone, yards don't win you games (which skip uses for the last SB).

Brady should get some credit for the Pats' salary cap. A different QB of the same caliber would be requiring so much more than Brady. Instead, Brady takes progressively less in order for the team to bring on more talented/expensive players.

As a lifelong Patriots fan, it is Bill Belichick. Tom is an all time great QB and leader, but Bill has constructed a system and a culture that is second to none. The very nature of the Patriots system, which focuses on roles rather than stars, has allowed us to effectively manage our cap while enhancing the talents of individual players. We dont need an Antonio Brown because we have a system that makes guys like Edelman highly effective. Not to take away from the players, who execute that system flawlessly.

I agree with both sides of the story here, the Ravens winning their super bowl was the art work of Bill and the first year Bill was at the Pat's he was in a building stage. And Tom to work with most personal that comes and goes and to make clutch plays and big plays continuously when needed is on another level to most QB's. It is around the 50-50 some times it swings back and forth a little but most of the time it is equal.

They both are overpowered, both tom and bill are goats. Bill could win any QB he made matt Cassell look great, jimmy g was a stud and definitely couldve groomed him in a great player, and also the backup qb with the colts cant remember his name. Its obvious that he can win without brady due to his gameplan. Tom brady could easily win with another team. Theyre both goats and its almost not fair them being on the same team.

It’s a shame all of those top 10 defenses of the early 2000’s patriots have been forgotten. And Kevin Faulk has been forgotten. And Lagarett Blount has been forgotten. Tom Brady never won a Super Bowl without being on a team with a good defense or with a solid enough running game to pick up tough yards. When Bill needed the weight of the world to be on Tom’s shoulders, the patriots went 18-1.

@MrDanielWP

Jacob Hughes - 1. Patricia ran the defense. 2. The defense is terrible - one of the lowest talent-wise in the league. 3. Why do you have to come back? If the defense could consistently get stops, you wouldn't be behind, certainly not by 28 points. 4. The production of Tom Brady, relative to other QBs he is facing, is a great barometer of how effective he is vs how effective his defense is. If you factor in the relative quality of the offense the Pats' Defense facing, and the quality of defense Brady and the offense is facing, you'll be able to get a very clear picture of the disparity between Brady and his Defense. For example: Joe Flacco isn't that hard to stop. The Ravens Defense was really hard to score on. Stats showed that throughout the years. So, when Flacco was getting 300+ yards and 2+ TDs against the Pats', their defense did terrible - they gave up a lot of yards and points to a bad offense. When Brady could throw for 300+ yards and 2+ TDs against that defense (with Ray Lewis), he did outstanding - he did a lot against a great defense.
@isaacsangels7235
@isaacsangels7235 5 жыл бұрын
tigera6 it’s a team sport so obviously you judge players individually for the game, Brady played great. And if the defense had played even good. They would have won. They couldn’t stop anyone out there. Horrible defense. I still think that if the eagles don’t get that fumble. Brady would have scored and then the game gets interesting.

It's 50/50, you can't have one without the other. Bill does well to put together a gameplan and Brady executes it. If it's not executed well then no amount of coaching will help. Really it's 33% since McDaniels puts together a great gameplan and calls good plays in the game.

Both guys are key to their success, but Belichick deserves more credit because he created an environment where NOBODY can be comfortable. Brady down to the 53rd guy on the roster is afraid to be late to a meeting. Even Chad Johnson aka Ochocinco mentioned how shocked he was to see Brady get chewed out in a meeting. Nobody is safe. That accountability puts everyone at attention. Assistant coaches as well. If they make it to another Super Bowl, their focus and practice level will be at 200% after seeing what happened to Malcolm Butler.

I'd say that they both need each other reason being is that being a Qb is more than just throwing the football. You can almost take any average player whether he be a lineman or a tight end and throw the ball 40 or 50 yards but that still wouldn't make him a Quarterback. Most people forget that Tom brady has a good work habit on and off the field. He does his homework figuring out ways to to get better and how to beat you because he knows that he isn't athletic he's slow doesn't have Aaron Rodgers arm although he can throw pretty far but he's great in situational football when the other teams figure you out and the pressure is on. This what gives him an edge over most QBs making right decisions. Not all the time but for most of the time. You can have a great coach but if you don't have the right Quarterback to carry out the mission then it's useless. Belichick is a good chess player coach he studies all the moves. It's like teaching you how to play an instrument, I could teach you how to play the keys (I'm a musician), I can teach you the basics but ultimately you'll have to up your own style if you want to go to the next level, and that means that you'll have to practice practice, practice. Not when you just have a keyboard session but also at home and every chance you get. Brady studies football at home on holidays etc. So he can be the best. Belichick said himself that he learned a lot from Brady. 60% Brady 40% Belichick is my opinion. Coach wouldn't have all of these superbowls without Tom hands down!

I’m pretty late to commenting on this segment but I must correct Shannon that Joe Gibbs as a HOF coach did win his first SB with a HOF QB in Joe Theisman so idk about that argument even going far but the two go hand n hand as well

Theisman never made it to the Hall of Fame. He was a good player though, unfortunately, that injury took him out. But it's true, Joe Gibbs did win 3 without Hall of Fame QBs

Y'all know who tom is, kobe Bryant 5 ring, loss in big game, both won 3 with Shaq and bill defence first before they won the next 2 on there own. There resume are similar to each other so much. Joe and micheal resume are similar with them not losing at all in the big game

Tom Brady was making teams great even before the NFL. Dude knows how to win no matter who is around him. Belichick and Brady are both the goat. But Brady, considering how much he was overlooked up until he took over starting job, is the most impressive of the two. That’s my opinion.

Ultimately .... PLAYERS play the game. Belichick should get credit for building the Patriots "culture" which includes his roles of being able to be both the GM and Coach. As for people who always want to use the word "system" .... every team has their "system". No coach tosses the ball to their QB and lets them do their own thing. The difference is .... Brady and Belichick have been repeating and refining the same strategy for over 15 years. Forget a QB who lasts that long .. how many more coaches are there in the NFL who have lasted over 10 years. Marvin Lewis (no idea how he's kept his job with such mediocrity) and Mike McCarthy who ... wow .. also has one of the greatest QBs of all time. However, no one wants to label that 10+ year relationship a "system".

Peyton did what he wanted offensively. He was the off coordinator to be real. Drew brees Sean Payton bill and Brady have an excellent 10+ year system. Mike McCarthy and that entire GB organization proved they ain't shot without Arod.

How many playoffs they make without Brady? How many playoff wins they have without Brady? Yes...there's Matt Cassell...yup, he didn't carry the Pats to the playoffs as the system should suggest. as for Peyton, you must not watch Pats games and how Brady shifts his guys based on what the defense shows him. Every team has a system. Some QBs have the extra talent to make additional plays outside the broken parameters of their system. Me...I'll take a guy who is the system, and runs plays as they should be. There's a reason the Pats are successful and how Brady has 5 Superbowl wins and 4 Superbowl rings.

Bill been in the nfl for over 40 years. His options plays for offense for all players on all plays os really hard to understand that why he rather have smart then talent. Be smarter is better in football.

The credit in my opinion goes to Belichick he is the one that's kept his dynasty alive for 20 years. He is the one who made the unpopular decision to start Brady after Drew Bledsoe was healthy. He took a lot of heat for starting an unknown second-year quarterback out of Michigan instead of playing a guy the organization just paid 100 million dollars to. At the end of the day the credit goes to Belichick because he stood up against the general consensus and recognized what Tom Brady was

Name Belichicks signature must win without Brady? You can't because it doesn't exist. 98 Citrus Bowl, 99 Orange Bowl. Thats two in Brady's only two years as a starter at Michigan and I don't recall seeing Belichick on the sideline. Belichick was so pathetic in Cleveland the owner moved them to another state to get away from him.

This is absolutely stupid. They're both great in their own right. This entire "debate" is bred out of jealousy to be honest. We don't do this with any Coach/QB duo. I've never heard people debate Lombardi/Starr, Montana/Walsh, Shanahan/Young, Shanahan/Elway, Holmgren/Favre, Shula/Marino, Knoll/Bradshaw, Dungy/Manning, etc. Not once Have i ever heard people diminish those QBs legacy because of their coaches, but yet we do it with Brady???... People for some reason have massive jealousy/hate towards brady that they'll go overboard and try and tear down his legacy to the point that it's pathetic. and i am not even a patriots fan, just being objective here

I'm not a fan of Skip but hindsight is 20/20 all of these years later and he was right about Tom Brady. Bill Belichick was mediocre coach before Tom Brady and he looks even worst since Brady departure. While Tom Brady has lead the Tampa Bay Bucs to the playoffs each year and won a Super Bowl in 2020.

If the first three SB wins in NE was primarily Bill, well then it should follow that most of the credit should keep going to Bill. Sure, I agree that TB is a great QB, but he couldn't win a single SB with the browns. Sure the QB is important and you need a good one to win. But if you don't build a good enough team around that QB it doesn't work. Football, despite how much everyone seems try to forget is a team game. And team games at the professional level cannot be won by a single player no matter who he is. That's just how it is.

You gotta give some of the percentage to Dante Scarnecchia. Night and day without him coaching the O-Line. Brady is the GOAT, but no QB is great on his back.

What is Chip smoking during the commercial break? Who fumbled in the last Super Bowl? Brady. Who took over the Atlanta Super Bowl? James White. Who won the game for New England against Seattle? Malcolm Butler. It's not just Brady and Belichick. It's the whole team.

Its 50/50. Bilichick is afforded a lot of luxury having someone he does not need to worry about at the most important position who also takes pay cuts for him to grab more talent. Brady also keeps himself healthy and out of trouble. They need each other.
