Bill Belichick's legacy-altering beef with Eric Mangini destroyed a beautiful friendship

Bill Belichick took Eric Mangini under his wing in Cleveland. Back in the early 90s, Belichick was just starting out his head coaching career while Mangini was a simple ball boy for the Browns. Out of that meeting bloomed a beautiful friendship that lasted for many years... until Mangini took the head coaching job with the Jets and reported Belichick to the league for spying. Beef!

Yes. But Bellichik was not a genius when he was with the Browns, nor did he looked like a genius last season. No doubt good coaching has a role, but there are other factors, too. "Eric Mangini was never my friend." - Bill Belichick after Spygate
@mazdakmina9493
@mazdakmina9493 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Actually, as the video made clear, he basically started acting as such even *before* Spygate! He basically started acting as such *the moment* Mangini left the "family!" Except, we have the records! Not only were they *very obviously* friends, but Belichick was going well out of his way to *tout* Mangini's accomplishments and claim he was a *very* important part of the team! And yet, the moment Mangini left the crime family, mob boss Belichick immediately started acting like the two were never really friends, and of course, when Mangini revealed the crime family's secrets, Belichick basically vowed to destroy his life (and essentially did! Mangini's career was completely destroyed, in large part due to Belichick's relentless and neverending efforts to ruin his reputation post-2007)! So yes, I completely agree! That's a very mob boss-like line, and organized crime leader Belichick essentially acted it out!

Uh, there's *no* code against division rivals! If anything, the whole point of rivalries is that the two sides hate each other so much, they'll often do things they *wouldn't normally* do to beat them! It's actually *very* common to see teams straight up "play dirty" to try to beat a rival (a fact *so* obvious, I can't believe I'm being forced to explain that right now)! So no, your entire argument is clearly made up! Mangini hasn't gotten another coaching job because of what the video itself quite literally made clear! Mob boss Belichick hated him so much for exposing the crime family's secrets that he did everything in his power to destroy Mangini's reputation and hurt him as much as possible! www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/sep/08/report-patriots-spied-on-rivals-40-times-and-stole-play-sheets-from-locker-rooms www.espn.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/13533995/split-nfl-new-england-patriots-apart And the other people commenting on this are right as well! Yes, Mangini, just like *pretty much all* of Belichick's former coaches, *also* was a *historically horrible* NFL head coach, which made it increasingly obvious that *cheating* was why Belichick was winning, not "hiring the best people," as he had so often tried to claim! Mangini, Crennel, McDaniels, all of whom were supposedly "the best minds in the game," were badly exposed as being frauds and *terrible* head coaches, putting up *historically* abysmal seasons (Crennel, in particular, in his only full season as Chiefs head coach, took a Kansas City team with *six* Pro Bowlers- the same number as the team had the year they *won* the Super Bowl, and the same number of Pro Bowlers as *that season's* Super Bowl-winning team, the Ravens- and went *2-14,* statistically the worst season all-time in Chiefs' history and statistically the worst team in the league that year! It was a season so *astonishingly* bad that it almost makes it forgivable by comparison that Mangini and McDaniels coached two of the worst single-season collapses in all of NFL history in Mangini's final season coaching the Jets and McDaniels' one and only head coaching season in charge of the Broncos)! The horrific record, plus exposing the mob boss of the league, which *of course* made him so angry that he acted *exactly* like an organized crime leader does when someone at one point a part of their organization reveals the criminal acts of the organized crime ring, was why Mangini was blackballed!

@@mazdakmina9493 I’ve heard a lot of strained takes on this but this is one of the worst. If cheating was why he was successful and his assistants learned to cheat from him… I’m sure you can figure out the rest. Belichick’s assistants are bad because he compartmentalizes and is *not* a good GM. He does a poor job of managing a lot of things, including the players’ and staff’s personalities and draft picks. But he also game-plans exceptionally well, works salaries and roster rules and is a great play-caller. The whole coordinator vs coach debate is stupid because Belichick didn’t teach any of his coordinators to coach, seeing as how that wasn’t what they were doing in New England. The myth that they’re transferable is just that. A myth. If all coordinators could successfully coach, then no one would be a coordinator. Even McDaniels only stayed in New England under the terms that he got “special” access to tutelage which Belichick wasn’t granting before the offer from Indianapolis.
@mazdakmina9493
@mazdakmina9493 2 жыл бұрын
@@christianc.christian5025 LMAO That is the dumbest analysis I've ever heard! Starting with the fact that you just said that coordinators aren't there to coach, when that is *literally* what they're there to do! To *coach* the part of the team they are assigned to! And I could go on, from the fact that you just tried to defend Belichick's cheating by claiming he didn't need to cheat to win, when even *Belichick* doesn't agree with you, as proven simply by the fact that *he cheated!* If he didn't believe he needed to cheat to win, he *never* would've cheated! He cheated, therefore even *he* disagrees with you, and therefore, that's the dumbest take you could possibly make! And that's not even mentioning the fact that you're not exempt from a crime just because you failed at it spectacularly (which is *exactly* what you're claiming! You're claiming he cheated when he never needed to, which means that he spectacularly failed in his cheating attempts and put all that effort and time into cheating and it added *nothing* to his resume)! If someone organizes a bank robbery so poorly that they end up *losing* money on the operation, they *still* go to jail for committing a bank robbery! They *still* are a criminal! Belichick *still* is a cheater, even if, as you apparently are trying to claim, he *did* fail so spectacularly at cheating that he put in all that time and effort to cheat and it added *nothing!* And there's so much more wrong with this, from the fact that Belichick does not call the offensive plays (and all indications are that he does not call defensive sets either), to the fact that McDaniels *got caught* cheating at Denver during his 6-0 start, and shortly after the operation was exposed (and he presumably was forced to disband the entire operation), suffered one of the *biggest* single-season collapses in NFL history, finishing the season 8-8 after a *6-0* start to the season! Overall, this has to be *the dumbest* take on common sense logic of *all time!* But you did get *one* thing right! Belichick clearly *does not* teach his coordinators to coach *at all* (which is their *entire* job, despite your ridiculous take on how coordinators are not coaches)! This is evidenced by the fact that the year after McDaniels left in 2010-2011, the Patriots had *no* offensive *or* defensive coordinator for the *entire* year, yet still went 14-2 and *far* outperformed their previous year's numbers (which makes sense when your team has been caught cheating in every which way and your only real job is to sit there, wait for the stolen footage, and then relay that information to the players)! Yes, the job of New England Patriots coordinator is *so* useless, that their coordinators could literally *not exist* at all, and it wouldn't matter; which is not even a hypothetical, because it's *happened* (not once, but *twice!* That 2010-2011 season was the *second* entire year they had gone without at least one coordinator position *completely* vacant all season)!

Man, do I not like defending Belichick, but the "actions speak louder than words" thing seems pretty clearly to be a reference to how his repeated hiring of Mangini demonstrates how he feels about him. In other words, looking at the three bits of the quotation the newspaper uses, he's basically saying, "I like him, he did a good job, and to prove I'm not just saying that because it's boilerplate coach-speak, look how many times I hired him."

He so very, very clearly means "he did a great job for me, obviously, since I've hired him 3 times now on new teams for promotions." I know y'all are trying to make this more fun and dramatic but he very clearly did not mean what was implied by the narration and it's hard to interpret unqualified praise as underhanded insults to character so easily.

In 5 years as a head coach, Mangini has a winning percentage of 0.413. That isn't so bad when you consider that he coached the Jets and then the Browns. I wonder if this beef with Belichick is part of the reason why it seems to be difficult for Mangini to even get a coordinator job in the NFL. He briefly served as coordinator for the 49ers before getting fired and as far as I know hasn't been a coordinator since.

No, we really do think they cheated as frequently as possible and much more than they got caught doing. At points it did appear that they used Kraft's ins with the league and other powerful people to cut things short too. Regardless if everyone did it, the patriots did it harder and more often. Spygate is the stupidest "scandal" in the history of sports. Oh no, they filmed people who are already on national television. The scandal is that they didn't do it from the right spot. Oh, wait, Deflategate was even stupider. That's when the NFL literally ignored the laws of physics (i.e. the ideal gas law) as they punished the Patriots. Oh, and let's not forget how instrumental an ex-Colts executive, mad at the Patriots for not letting Manning be the best QB of his time, was for driving that scandal and leaking information to the press about it.

Seriously, if you hate being a Patriots fan so much, do what my family (lifelong Patriots fans) did and root for another team! They bullied people and then acted like *they* were the "victims" for rooting for pathological cheaters and insulting anyone who *dared* to tell the truth and call those frauds *exactly* what they were! It was beyond pathetic and we are all *laughing* at them now for being *so dumb* and *so pathetic* and trying to *hurt* and *insult* others for telling the *obvious* truth! And the same *will* happen (if it hasn't already) to Patriots' fans, hence why my family jumped off that train! XD XD XD XD XD XD XD XD XD You can root for another team, like my family did! If you keep supporting pathological cheaters and gaslighting everyone who calls them what they are, *you* are literally *everything* you claim to hate everyone else for doing! XD XD XD XD XD Again, you can't stop this train! You know *exactly* where it's headed! Don't pretend you don't (because even *you* couldn't admit to yourself that your team didn't cheat. You can only cry about how "that's all anyone can talk about." You are clearly well aware of the fact that your team are pathological cheaters, and yet want gaslight and lie and bully everyone else into participating in your fake and fraudulent storyline rather than simply *root for someone else)!* 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

@@mazdakmina9493 Spygate got blown way out of proportion for something that most professional teams do. Deflategate time and time and time again has been debunked. Don't want to listen to me, fine listen to the facts. It's a proven scientific fact that cold air makes air contract. There are other instances of this happening to other teams but did you hear about it? No. Ignoring that if the deflated balls were the real reason they won, how come the Colts couldn't put up more than 7 points. Let me repeat that again for you...7 points. Also how exactly do deflated balls help a running back? Cause Blount rushed for 148 yards and three tds. Also the only reason that Brady was suspended at all was cause he refused to hand over his phone. Well he's guilty then right? Uhhhh no. Would you want the entire organization looking through your personal emails, texts, search history over an investigation 2 years later! Hell no. Truth is nobody likes winners. Also don't forget this was a Pats squad that crushed the Colts earlier that previous season. So what's more likely, a massive conspiracy, or a team that didn't want to admit they got blown out twice by the same team in one year.
