Hero129 actually the paradiddle is the most common lick in drummin. And allot of ppl dnt even kno wat that lick is. It's hard once ya start doin it. That's why Eric Moore won that drum off comp.

what does this video have to do with tony royster playing for Jay-Z. come on man. it was a drum clinoc in brazil. all drummers. that looks like a crowd of at least 2,000 people there just to watch Eric Moore.. pretty cool to me. But TOny Royster is really dope on the drums. One of the best in the world.

Anyone saying he has no pocket, or would get fired for playing this kind of stuff is, well, a little jealous I think. First off, he's playing a solo, which is pure exhibition, and what the crowd was expecting. He wasn't asked to play a pocket groove here. Consider the context. Second, he's a pro, and wouldn't whip out those bombastic fills in the middle of a song or during a session, unless it was expected of him.

I didn't say eric is a product, absolutely. I only said that the drum part and the way it is played of the song he's playing (jumpin' jumpin') was createdby gerald heyward,who, in 2006 at modern drummer, played it. And he's absolutely better than eric moore. In my opinion. Maybe if Moore find another song to play in his way, not a song choosed by another great gospel drummer, i'll change my ideas ;) {sorry for my english, i'm italian.}

it's goog to have chops, there's no doubt about it! BUT! that doesn't mean his the best..drummers usually tend to forget about musicality. when tony r. plays with jay z , style is all about keepin it simple and funky :)

this video goes hard. but better than royster i say no. if you really think about it he does the same licks the whole time. i would like to see him do more than the same licks. tony has a wide variety of licks. and he make them sound much differant than one he would just do the second before.

i think its unfair to compare tony and eric they are too total different drummers. erics chop are completely different from tony's secondly eric chops are played at a faster tempo. i love them both tony and eric they offer something to the listener but overall i thing eric has the ability to be one of the greatest drummer ever overall judging in all category if he works at it

. it's funny to see how a lot of you guys are hiding from the reality...I bet that those who says it's anoying are just NOT AT ALL able AT LEAST to ear what Eric ears in his head . and of course are absolutly not able to do it technically...lol necessarily...I've seen Eric play in some bands and im a tell you that hes doing music and he talks when his turn comes..to be a great, you have to practice and to be able to play what chu ear. that's the way it is

Eric fuels the piece with a lot of momentum and energy/excitement but besides lacking dynamic contrast he leaves no space and his phrases tend to whiz by so quickly that they lose their musicality. With that said though I would love to be able to fan the excitement with fills like that. I would just not bombard the music with it all the time, even for a drum clinic. Still, Eric Moore can play no doubt about it!

@blicky2blacky Ya know...most of what you write is accurate and nicely stated. I have just run out of tolerance, I believe that this performance would have gotten you fired years ago. Any technically proficient drummer could play over every note being played, lack dynamics, and crush phrasing...anyone can... This is a "Guitar Center Drum Off Champ", expect it! 3 minutes of drum solo wins you this right to do that, mmm I'm thinking no it don't. This is why drum machines are still popular .
