I'm fortunate enough to actually live here in Lansing, so I go to his church. After seeing this part of the video Joe, I hada ask him about this cause I wondering the same thing! Turns out Edward was closest to being correct ... E was like I'm a kid from Detroit, heck no, I'm not bouta let nobody just put me under water like that!!!!! I've never heard him reference this story to himself either but he was basically saying that he uses this story because he's not as old or high up, as say ... A guru! My interpretation is that he used himself in this story for relatability to drive the point of importance!hope it helps!
