As a nurse I can definitely say the 911 operator did exactly what she was supposed to do. The questions sound frivolous but they’re life saving and there’s a lot going on behind the scenes. Their main focus is saving the life of the person having the emergency. CPR saves lives! And a defibrillator is a big part of administering CPR. It shocks the heart back into rhythm. We’re thinking emotionally, the 911 operator is thinking critically.

I hear you, but when you're on the other end you're not receptive to those questions, your mind is everywhere and the questions are more annoying than coming across as helpful. We want to hear that the police or EMT is on the way and it usually takes a long time for them to tell you they are.

But they cannot show up & have no idea what’s going on or what they’re up against, environmentally or medically. Care doesn’t start when they show up, it starts with the 911 operator relaying the conversation they had with the person calling. The more details given, allows the person in the emergency a better chance of surviving. As dreadful as it may be in the moment, CPR saves lives. Being as detailed as possible and if you can, remain calm.

@@bxbee1100that’s my issue. Also, most people don’t even know what a defibrillator is. I know what it is because I work in schools. However, the everyday person does not. When the caller sounded confused and asked what the defibrillator was that should’ve been the dispatcher’s clue to move on to the next thing because they don’t have one or she had no idea what it is. This is where I became irritated with the dispatcher.

My husband was a 911 dispatcher and they have to gather as much info as possible to communicate it to whomever is responding. They KNOW it’s an emergency, that’s why the caller dialed 911, but they need info to know the level of emergency, and when you hear some of the traumatizing calls they get, it’s a skill that they can stay focused. In those moments every second counts so time can’t be wasted on things that won’t address the problem. Often cpr administered while on the call is just enough to sustain the brain until first responders arrive and can take over. They are trying to keep the caller on the line to help the dispatchers put the call out to first responders in the area. And if there are competing emergencies, they need that info to know the urgency of response. For example, if you call about a fender bender and cops are responding to a shooting, they know they can put you lower on the list. Versus a person calling about a person in critical condition, that will jump to the front of the line.

Although most people don’t have defibrillators in their home, if they do have access to one it does instruct you on what to do. Once you turn it on, it will give clear step-by-step voice instructions, so there’s no need to read anything and the 911 operator would’ve also been of assistance to her.

Reason they check those things off in the 911 calls is because the caller could be calling from an office building, a restaurant, a club, a bank, a school, home, etc so they have to ask all of those questions so they know how to assist the caller and also what the ambulance should have on board. It’s a lot to consider, but this situation is so sad.

Sadly Michael K. Williams and Rich spoke openly about their addictions. It is sad how rap went from glorifying selling drugs to glorifying using drugs and here we are with these young people who weren’t afraid of dying anyway, passing away from drugs pressed up my folks who couldn’t read out loud in school. It’s sad and like the guns are out of control, these pills are out of control. I have no desire to listen to the 911 call and heard Rich was supposed to testify in the Young Thug case.

It's WILD to me that people call and/or visit professionals for help, then complain about or get mad at the help they receive! The 911 operator followed protocol and did exactly what she was supposed to do. Defibrillators are available at Walmart. The directions are written as well as illustrated - for children and people who can't read. That's how simple they are to use. They're so accessible because the goal is to save lives! Seconds matter! The amount of time the brain is deprived of oxygen can determine whether a person is in a coma for a few weeks so the body can heal or if they will be a vegetable for the rest of their lves- or have NO life at all. Clearly, the operator is transmitting info to the police and ambulance at the same time she's taking measures to do her part to save a life until they get there. Most people would hang up the moment they hear the police are on the way. Possibly not engaging in life-saving measures at all. There's a reason for these protocols.

PREACH! and I explained the same thing to someone else.. I always tell my trainees to not advise them they’re en route unless they have to because they’re GOING TO HANG UP! And can’t nobody tell me she wouldn’t have cause she was more interested in reporting it to his dad than 911 anyways. And I don’t understand why they’re upset about the dispatcher not acting as if he was deceased. Like let’s use a little common sense here.. no medical personnel or anyone trained to check for a pulse did so so whyyy would you even want the dispatcher to respond as if he’s gone? We, along with ems and police, will act as if it’s a chance to save his life because that’s what we’re trained to do! Seems like the people would’ve been happier if the dispatcher would’ve just sent a coroner and police instead of ems cause damn lol can’t win for losing
