What a GREAT start to what I know will be a BEAUTIFUL quilt!! SPECIAL NOTE: Erica, you are TOTALLY CORRECT in that you need to TRIM after you sew pieces together. That is the KEY to ALL of your pieces going together easy peasy!!

You can totally skip the sashing and sew your blocks directly together for any quilt pattern! :) You just have to adjust your borders a little bit :)

I don't think you'll have enough fabric with just 1 layer cake, but if you can add in other fabric as needed as you go you could use it as your "main" colors. And you'll want to get background/border fabric in yardage of course.
