Hi Eric, I know I'm a little late to the party, with this being a 2 mo th old video. I just found your channel and I am absolutely blow away with the level of detail and craftsmanship you put into these leather holster. It is truly a pleasure watching you work. But I was wondering, are there and benefits (and/or drawbacks) to having a steel lined holster compared to holster without one. Like, does it help protect the gun from outside forces, like accidentally tripping and falling onto it or bumping hard into something? Or does it help hold the gun in the holster tighter for longer without having to re-wet it and sculpt the lines again? This video has my curiosity peeked, thanks 😊
@coldwarrior37942 жыл бұрын
With an in the waist band holster like this you wear it inside of your pants and the clip hooks on to your belt. Since the holster is sandwiched between you and your pants it can crush the holster if you’ve got your belt very tight and this will prevent you from reholstering your pistol effectively. The steel reinforcement piece ensures this won’t happen by bracing the bend of the holster and preventing it from collapsing under normal conditions.

Hello you do great video.what is your machine model and how thick of leather can it sow who would you buy one from
@AdamsLeatherWorks2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I sew with a Cobra Class 4 from Leather Machine Co. It can sew up to 3/4" thick. If you Google "Juki 441 Clone", you'll find several models based off that design. Find someone local to you selling & servicing the machine, and make sure it's configured with a servo motor and speed reducer. For smooth leather, you'll want to also make sure the upper and lower feed dogs are ground smooth & polished.

We’re you able to complete a stitch with the presser foot locked in the up position? I guess I was under the impression that the foot had to be down before the needle went past 6 o’clock. Otherwise it would skip a stitch. Nice work as always 🙂
@AdamsLeatherWorks2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The machine functions normally with the presser foot locked in the upward position, but you have to force the leather downward with your hands to avoid the skipped stitch. I run with the presser foot at just about its minimum pressure amount. I always have to be careful about skipped stitches and press downward with my fingers to keep the needle from lifting up the leather or letting the leather slide backwards when the machine pulls tension.

Just watched this video and was wondering if you have done a similar one for any of the Glocks? Specifically I am interested in the Model 23 and 43. And do you have the patterns for them? Thanks.
@AdamsLeatherWorks Жыл бұрын
Hi Pat - I have made a few over the years, and I have this style of pattern available on my website for both the guns you mentioned. That said, the holster in this video was unique with the lining and steel insert, as well as the plastic clip. If you're building a holster to use the plastic belt clip, you'll need to make sure the hole spacing on the pattern matches the mounting hole spacing on the clip and adjust the pattern accordingly. www.adamsleatherworks.com/digital-patterns?Category=IWB-1

Hi. What kind of metal sheet you put between leather layers?
@AdamsLeatherWorks2 жыл бұрын
The sticker for the metal is shown at 2:52. Everbilt brand, 22ga sheet metal from Home Depot. I don't know what metal other holster makers use, but this is borderline too thick to easily bend once it's laminated between the layers of leather.

That gorgeous piece of hardware with a Fomi... so sad. Do you make holsters to order?
@AdamsLeatherWorks2 жыл бұрын
Fomi? I do make holster to order, but not accepting new orders at the moment.
@searchBLOC9412 жыл бұрын
@@AdamsLeatherWorks that's awesome, you're truly an artist. A Fomi is that style of belt clip. I make kydex holsters to order and typically steer people away from that design if possible. There is not a lot of solidity with those clips. J Hooks work the best for kydex stuff, or the snap loops. I'm leather-illiterate however, so the interaction IWB might differ when using a Fomi, the pants and design of the holster may keep it in place better.
@AdamsLeatherWorks2 жыл бұрын
@@searchBLOC941 Thank you Dan - I appreciate it! This clip worked pretty well in this use case, but the clip does flex the top of the holster a bit. The customer was happy with it and I like how this clip integrates easily with the way I'd normally design this holster (with leather belt loops). If someone doesn't like the leather loops, switching to this clip is an easy upgrade (so long as the hole spacing is the same). It may benefit from a steel band in the throat of the holster to stiffen it up, but that adds a lot of work to the holster build.
@searchBLOC9412 жыл бұрын
@@AdamsLeatherWorks that makes sense. Other than where it comes from, I know very little about leather. I do however enjoy learning from your videos!
