Surface Duo Review: Above the Fold (Duo vs Galaxy Z Fold 2)

Microsoft Surface Duo is not perfect but better at multitasking than Galaxy Z Fold 2. Here are real world examples! I used it for several weeks and it opened up possibilities that I didn't expect. It's expensive and has bugs but I want to give it a chance.

@@six3sin I actually think you need to read what you just typed. That says more about the user than the designer, in this case. If you have been using a slab phone and app switching with 3 to 4 gestures or taps per, you have some issues if you can't see the use case - and that's a simple example.

Finally a honest review on these devices that doesn't just look at a spec sheet and say one is better than the other because one device just has the better specs. I really appreciate how you went over how they can be used and the pros and cons of each device for the different use cases. The Duo is a productivity beast, and that is how microsoft is advertising it. Where as the Z Fold 2 is a beautiful media consumption device. I cant wait to see what Microsoft does with the Duo 2! Like the original surface device and how they kept getting better and better generation after generation, i think the Duo will become a serious device that will stand up to what Apple and Samsung offer.

@@TommyRadio. I actually went from the Samsung Note 20 Ultra to the Duo as my primary device and I love it. I am the perfect user for this. Money is no factor and I simply go with what I enjoy the most. I definitely understand that some people can't see themselves with this device, no matter if it is for the camera, the specs or the fact that you will not watch videos in "full screen" with it. It has some bugs too. But for me as an entrepreneur, who wants an extra productivity tool. This is THE device.

Well cuz in real life theres nothing special! You can do the same on a 700 bucks Lg with dual screen case! Also she demonstrated her life scenario! At least for me its totally different! I dont see myself or havent seen a video yet someone texting one hand on the Duo! Also its missing a ton of hardware and software features, nfc, mobile payment wireless charging, camera, the list goes on! But again its personal preference! My wife and i got the Fold2! We can play games, wireless charge, text with one hand like a real phone, take good pictures and videos, we use samsung pay which is the best out there! Its a more future proof device!

It took an entirely different approach and started from scratch to sort of reinvent how we use mobile devices. It's far from perfect, but I think it's important to acknowledge the work Microsoft has done here to build something unique that can be used in ways other phones cant. Adding to that that it's a gen 1... Can't wait what gen 2/3 will bring! Oh and... Yes the fold 2 is a great device, you should indeed be super happy with it :)

I really dont see all the special youre seeing on the Duo, its not a foldable, its not one hand use, and its missing a lot! The only highlight most people talk is how thin the Duo is, lol, of course its thin, it does not offer a bunch of hardware! If Samsung takes off the cameras, wireless charging, nfc, this and that, it will probably be as thin! But for what?

Excellent review! For the reasons you mentioned, I would prefer the Duo over the Fold. I use my phone more for consuming content than for playing (videos or games). So, having Outlook and Teams both open during work would be great. Plus, as you mentioned, the Duo is much cheaper than the Fold 2 - but both are still more than I want to pay. Some reviewer mentioned issues flicking apps between screens or changing from the back screen to the front one. I didn't see you demonstrate the second scenario but you didn't appear to have trouble flicking apps around. Was double-tapping to change screen priority when the phone is folded screen side out causing any issues?

You make some very valid points about both. I think the only time I would switch from the Note to the Fold is if it had an S pen. As an artist I would want that big screen for sketching and other art.

Three things i noted in your review. 1st; you give your enough precious time. You try to grab all essence of devices to be reviewed and put your views perfectly. 2nd is presentation. Same scenario and work flow are going through both devices and with ease you are making show that which one is better. 3rd is content creation part and thoughtfulness behind it. 3+ is your voice is soothing and crispy clear. I am not going to buy either of two, as they are priced heftily for my use. But i still prefer, if possible will try to go for 2nd hand surface duo in future; if at all available in India or can import ! Thanks.
