If i play myself always get a draw regardless of where i place the first just got to prevent either from getting a V or L. Someone always slips up though. 😊

You can actually get a guaranteed win by starting on the side if your opponent goes on either of the adjacent sides or the corners opposite to where you went. For example, if you start top middle, opponent goes middle left, the you go top left, then top right, then center, which gets a guaranteed win. That gives a 1/2 chance of winning if you don’t consider the probabilities of the other squares

Does this work if you believe in opponent rationality? Because surely then they would always choose the best outcome it wouldn’t work the same way with the probabilities

So there is no way to win if you start from the side?

Just because 20 out of 24 placements will allow the 1st person to win, doesn't mean that there's a 20 out of 24 chance of winning, because the opponent isn't selecting squares randomly. They might be using rational thinking when selecting squares, therefore the chance of the 1st person winning might be 30 to 50%, which is fairly good.

Hate to be a stickler, but I cannot let 20/24 stand. It's 5/6, dude.

There's really only 3 or 4 strategies. If the opponent knows them...well game is pretty boring
