Never knew what sequence and separation was all about until this video. So many people throw these terms around loosely and carelessly. Very helpful video to give meaning to those terms. So critical to understanding the swing.

To your point, I’m 77 years young and will never achieve Trevor’s range of motion. Yet, I can still create the sequence, pelvis, rib cage, shoulders. Doing the drills in front of a mirror in slow motion have carried over to compressing the ball better than when I was in my 30’s. My sequence thoughts in the past were always knees, then shoulders, giving no consideration to pelvis and rib cage to my detriment.

Knowledge is not the first thing that comes along, trying typically is the initiator. What I’m saying is instructors didn’t exist until someone smacked a walnut with a stick. For a long time I was taught too much motion was bad, wow has that changed; weight from balanced to back leg and to lead leg before club ventures in the direction of the ball/target line. Arms get to follow lower body motion. Thats why we differ… understanding.

I'm sure this works better with a $wing coach standing next to you. For the average YT viewer, adding more thoughts to the process like pelvis, rib cage, shoulders, side bend, wrists, timing etc are just adding to the confusion. The one thing I took from this is RELAXATION, which is a concept I always struggle with, especially after a few bad shots.

Nice video thank you. I notice in the drill the feel by holding the lead shoulder is that it does not really move much while the separation is taking place in the downswing. In the videos of the actual swing there is a big upward movement of the lead shoulder. Could you please explain the element. Thank you.

I love this stuff. However, be careful with the side bend portion. The AMG guys have proven that there really isn't any side bend with the use of gears. It seems like it's there but not really. Ask Milo Lines.

Great video guys! I'm currently a 14 HC and I feel that the main thing holding back is this...separation. My question - what do you recommend to help train the mind to release tension? If I hold too much tension I loose the feel of the club being behind me resulting in an over the top feel.

I think side bend is the wrong terminology for the right idea. You have to maintain your spine tilt.
@breakwsd8940
@breakwsd8940 Жыл бұрын
When you shift your weight to your left foot, do you feel like your pushing down with your left foot or more of like you just shifted all your body weight to the left leg? And at the same time you feel like you kind of hold the head still or even back through the crunch of the right hip? I’m trying to get into these positions but it’s hard (looking at my swing on camera). Watching some of the pros I don’t understand how it’s anatomically possible for them to have their left leg and even almost their left pelvis perpendicular to the ground while the head is still well behind the ball. I try this by crunching my right hip but like the pelvis and top of the left leg bend doesn’t look right I feel like I’m missing something. Try and put more weight on the left leg shift the body weight but then it’s hard to keep the head back.
@breakwsd8940
@breakwsd8940 Жыл бұрын
I might be okay I think John Rahm looks similar to what I look like in terms of left pelvis tilt. It took my a while to figure out how to get the lead wrist bowed left arm straight at impact which is why I’m wondering if this left leg issue is similar. Golf is a trippy game took me forever to be able to get the lead wrist right my brain couldn’t comprehend it. So at impact you don’t feel like you’re almost standing on your left leg correct?

There should really be no debate here. All good ball strikers sequence their downswing movements as shown here by Eric and Trevor. Like most thing in life, there is no magic bullet. Without putting in the work it is unrealistic to expect high level results. Get in front of that mirror !

As a swing coach for over 30+ years, I totally get you, John. In fact, the reason I became a coach was to introduce the easiest method for swinging a golf club for people like me .... not very athletically inclined. Athleticism is, imo, a genetic thing, & unfortunately none of my family has much athleticism. You have to keep the game enjoyable AND do-able. That said, may I offer something to you in parting. Look into Mike Austin and his 'Square to Square' method. Mike Malaska or Eric Cogorno ( right here on KZbin) will get you striking your irons & woods to your delight. This is a method all my disadvantaged students embrace & have had enormous success through the years, which is also a method they hold fast. Good luck & thx for your comment.

I can't hear and read not longer why "amateurs" can't swing like pros. That's a stupid expression. I'm a amateur and i never lost a game against a professional! Every good amateur plays better than the PGA pro in his Club because he has to teach others and no time for playing self. Every man who played some cards 5 over or better can become a PGA pro - ro win the championship in a old golf club you have to play four rounds 4 over or better im stroke play. Yes, playing professionals are better players, they practice day and night. But good amateurs also have a good swing! Your definition of "amateur" is total wrong!

@@CogornoGolf Media Business in modern times... But by the way : i think you are a good coach! I'm learned the game by watching others, reading fundamentals of swing and leadbetter books with faldo and nick price. It worked and after 6 months i shot 5 over.... Golfer should learn to trust in their feels, to let the club swing free to the aim! The rest, hitting the ball happens automatically if the set up is right. Also the people should focused on being in move and not standing still like a rock.... Anyway, you are the coach which gives orientation. All the best!
