YES! This is a very dynamic, and athletic way to play golf. This sequencing, and separation adds sooo much speed, with what feels like less effort. It’s the same concept that athletes use to punch harder, throw a ball further and faster, hit a forehand harder in tennis, or even do something as simple as skipping a rock better.

Hope it serves you well! All things in the golf swing matter to the degree that they effect pieces later on. I hear your point.....backswing stuff CAN matter A LOT...if it negatively effects later pieces. This one really good to focus on getting the right downswing motions and body (Lower body) leading the way

Great video as always Eric! Several questions: 1. Weight shifting start from beginning of backswing or complete the first part of backswing (no arm)? 2. Does it apply to driver as well? 3. Does it need a squat / hip lower move as well?
@CogornoGolf Жыл бұрын
Thank you! 1. when doing the drill......start with weight 50/50....keep it 50/50 when you pose the club in the takeaway position.....then immediately as the arms go BACK you are feeling the weight go FORWARD toward target. 2. You CAN FEEL the same thing with driver....but dont do the drill with it....as the clubs get longer its important to make sure you make a full backswing turn.....FEEL vs REAL 3. That SHOULD happen AUTOMATICALLY when doing this....dont need to add it consciously

The club parallel to the ground in the backswing is key for me. It has allowed me to accept that the feelings for the backswing and downswing overlap. Any movement towards the target involves feelings for the downswing.

Its almost my swing in a nutshell. I started watching rahm my full swing at the absolute most with irons never go over 3/4. I believe unless youre a really good athlete the rest of the swing gets people disconnect its runoff. And ive got decent power swinging like this driver 280-285 ish average carry down to pw 140ish 138 really to be precise. My full swing is like jt doing the drill. You really feel compression and i feel it takes so many elements out thats not needed and takes the fear out of really going after it for me.
@creamabdul-jabbar6722 Жыл бұрын
Sliced alot and I felt like it was runoff. I watched something talking about the power in the swing is at the bottom and something for me just said then I don't need all that extra. I've went from 28+ to 2.8 in 3 years. So this is Def onto something here

Hi, this is a very good drill. Will try this later. Still, it term of timing, it is very clause to something I changed recently in my swing and that impacted both my release and weight transfert. Indeed I now start my backswing without arm (or almost), mostly chest then hips. And then when I start moving arm upward/loading my arm I start bending the left knee to load left leg and recenter. I am not considering my hip right now but for sure will try to integrate that in near futur. Thanks. Those are great lessons.

Again, great content! …. but how does this fit together with the sling shot session where only the first part of the backswing is the same???
@CogornoGolf Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I would say the sling shot video would be how to FEEL and LOAD the full backswing to get distance. So if your backswing is already too short and/or need distance that would be a good option to start. For this its just to EXAGGERATE the FEEL of the lower half leading the downswing. The idea would then you would still make a full backswing THEN feel the same start down to get the best of both worlds
@thomasmccauley9607 Жыл бұрын
What helps me on the backswing is supinating the left hand(rotating to the left). This takes out the cup of the left wrist at setup. Although it seems significant to me, when I see it on video it’s almost imperceptible. You could do this on the downswing you have less time to accomplish it. Anyway this has helped me to avoid hitting the ball to the right.
@CogornoGolf Жыл бұрын
Thanks Thomas! Love it---thats definitely a big part of squaring the face (lead arm rotation) regardless of when and where.
@drsabu Жыл бұрын
Eric, you have another video for a drill to help with swing speed that starts with the club waist high and then swing as fast or as hard as you can (similar to the Jon R video). What differentiates this drill from the feel in the speed drill. TY.
@CogornoGolf Жыл бұрын
Hey! Yes---good call....I would say that is virtually the same idea. By ramping up the speed from the short position you are FORCED to create the speed with your lower body...which is PART of "leading" with your hips. Hope that helps

Does this drill also show you where you should actually be at the "top" transition point of your swing? It seems like a very short compact motion...but maybe that's what I've been missing from my swing all these years!
@CogornoGolf Жыл бұрын
Hey there! It certainly gives you a great feel for improving the sequencing and shifting in the transition! You may enjoy checking out this video as well: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZonOk2iXht-lbpYfeature=shared A lot of students will ask how do you transition these drills where you start the downswing sooner (around hip high) into a full, normal swing... Do the same exact thing to hip high, but record it and see where you are actually at. A lot of the time when you FEEL hip high, you'll be more like 3/4 swing at chest/shoulder high. Your arms and hands are going to keep going up just out of pure momentum...so there's not a lot of transition between the drill in either of these videos and a full, normal swing. Hope this helps!

I would do the drill with a short iron.....you CAN use similar FEELS for all clubs.....but as the clubs get longer you likely want to make sure in your REAL SWING that you make a FULL BACKSWING Remember this is just an exaggerated FEEL to sense the lower body action to start the downswing
@nickyuen9923 Жыл бұрын

Yeah thats a big part Dave! We have talked lots about that in previous takeaway videos....100% agree with that when the arm disconnects the shoulder internally rotates too much and the forearm pronates too much.....club will ALWAYS be off plane from there and USUALLY clubface issues as well you CAN make up for it later....but more difficult way to do it

Had no idea Danny planned to post that video with similar thumbnail 2. This thumbnail I first saw from JChown golf 11 months ago here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYO1mGaMYrelppY 3. We first modeled this thumbnail which I gave credit to Jchown for the idea 3 months ago here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqfQYahvjbeAhZo 4. Based on what I can see this is the first time Danny is posting this....and smart on him....because its a good thumbnail :) Where do you think he got it from ? :) 5. All of us in the golf industry share ideas and model titles and thumbnails that work (other industries do this as well) 6. The goal with the KZbin game is to get as many people to watch....so the titles and thumbnails are so important....so when you find some that work a lot of us will use it. Of course the key is that once the video starts the CONTENT is not the same. We spend a lot of time, energy and money to put these videos out for FREE to help you all. Would be ashamed to do all that and have no one watch ya know... Anyway....I hear ya---totally see where you're coming from.
