NOTE - I didn't mean to make it sound like Byron was solely to blame for the Chastain wreck. My bad on that. Hard to tell exactly what happened, but it seems Ross may have slowed a bit and Byron chose not to lift since it was the last lap. Hard to completely fault Byron for that, but who knows if Ross sees it the same way.

While Chase’s win underscores a new chapter in the 9/HMS camp, Brad Keselowski’s importance at RFK is constantly underestimated and under appreciated. There has not been much talk about it since the 17 grabbed three wins. While BK has a triple digit winless streak, this is the second year (third if you count massive penalty season) that Rousch Fenway cars are constantly relevant.

Brad has done a great job in the owner role and is still doing well behind the wheel with a bunch of strong finishes and even some great runs when the finishes haven't been great. This last race at Texas was a case of the opposite, a car that wasn't amazing, especially early, but perseverance and strategy put the 6 in a position to contend. NASCAR had some videos last summer giving a glimpse at how Brad has changed the culture over at that organization and it really has been tremendous. It's just a shame how Ford is struggling the same as they did a year ago. After they committed to changing the nose for 2024, Penske and RFK figured the old one out to the point where Ford was great at the end of the season, but now they have to start all over.

Bill Elliott made a well known comment during his career that "I'd enjoy racing just as much if the stands were totally empty". Chase is a carbon copy of him in that respect. Like he said, he had a run on the last lap and couldn't really afford to lift there to let Ross gather it up. Just part of racing where cars sometimes just end up at the same place at the same time. Texas really rewards precision and aggression, but it punishes lack of precision and aggression also. That is why ross always excels there, but the track does bite back sometimes.

The way Busch and A Dillon were able to get top 10’s was because of them not pitting for a very long time during the final stage when everyone else but like 12 drivers including them hadn’t pitted. Single lug was the dumbest idea for nascar...no stock Toyota, ford, or chevy has a single lug...and I'm sure it has cost teams more money that staying with 5 lugs.

every single time McDowell has a decent car this season its always something that happens. Daytona his engine failed, Atlanta he crashed onto pits, Bristol he blew a tire, Cota he lost power steering, and now, Texas he crashed being aggressive, Its just annoying. and most of these aren’t his fault.

I think not adding traction compound might be smart. It takes away that false sense of grip too. But this car has been tricky on grip since the Next Gen, especially at Texas. The playoff race in 2022 was wild here.

I was listening to the race via my NASCAR app and I can tell you my heart rate was through the roof on that final restart. To me the only experience that gets close to radio is actually being at the track. Once chase crossed the line to start the final lap I knew that if a caution came out with chase in the lead that the race would be over and I let out my emotion when I heard the caution flag come out on Radio.

After this race, I think Ford needs to find their footing in Nascar. It's been 12 years since a manufacturer went winless in all three series after a quarter of the season went by, that was Dodge back when we had 4 manufacturer. It's the first time a manufacturer has gone winless running in all 3 series with only 3 manufacturers competing in each division of Nascar.

Did Ty Gibbs ever get penalized for the first green flag pitstop he made, when he took the wheel socket with him onto the track. I watched the race and they said he had to come back down under the yellow flag because he had a socket on his wheel. Isn't that removing equipment out of the pit box? Like a wedge wrench. I just never heard them mention it as a penalty.
