It's almost impossible to conceive of Korngold composing this as a 12-year old but then he was a child-prodigy! Of course, Zemlinsky's orchestration works wonders, further underlining Korngold's debt, in his later success as film composer par excellence, to his teacher....

Ridiculous. A 12-year-old could not write this. He was 11.
