the fact that nobody talks about the book called Manifestation Hacks by Olivia Cooper speaks volumes about how people are stuck in a trance.

I have read 4 of those books. Washington Black is my favorite. That book has stayed with me, just wonderful.

I can confirm, reading and walking becomes second nature when you do it enough. I used to have an hour walk to work along a wooded cycle lane, perfect read-walk setting.

Just freaking awesome! 🥰🥰🌈🌈 I couldn't have loved it any more deeply---unless Betty White and/or Ryan Gosling were included.

Thanks so much, Shawn! 😊📚 If I could beam Betty in from the afterlife I'm sure we'd have a wonderful chat about books and our favourite animals.

I AM IN LOVE WITH SOLENOID TOO! I am totally supporting Solenoid for the International Booker Prize! It is not an easy read but so worth it!

Ah what a great video!! 🥰 Was so fun and sweet to see you all together. I laughed at the discussion and also felt comforted that I wasnt alone about Gilead. I felt exactly the same about it when I read it exactly 10 years ago! It should come with a small warning inside, "Are you in your twenties and/or slightly immature? (I was in my early thirties and still very immature 🙈) If so, go and read some more books and come back in ten years time" I also absolutely adored and will forever treasure, Olive Kitteridge, Milkman, Lincoln in the Bardo and Girl, Woman, Other 🩷
@EricKarlAnderson3 күн бұрын
Thanks so much, Selina! It's true the publishers should really put that warning on Gilead! 😂 I'm glad you agree on those books. I'm now thinking about all the books I should have mentioned but it's a fun exercise nonetheless. 😊📚

Well I’ve read four and have another four on the shelf - totally agree with Lincoln in the Bardo, Milkman and I am half way through Solenoid at the moment. Surprised Ducks, Newburyport wasn’t on there having won the Golsmiths😮

YES! You're so right and I can't believe I forgot about Ducks. 🦆

I loved Olive and The Road. The Overstory felt like a collection of short stories to me. Maybe I’ll try to read it again sometime but Powers writing also made me feel that way in Playground so I don’t know 🤷♀️. The way he described the plight/ blight of the Chestnut tree was so beautiful though. I’ll never forget it. Looking forward to Lincoln in the Bardo! 🙏

Blonde Roots is a wonderful book and I don't know if it's just me but I think I can see more of Bernandine in her first character, the playwright.

Bernie, The Road may be my favorite book, for the reasons you state. The crying too!

I loved both Gilead and Lila but I was at my mid 30s when I first read Gilead. I have also read Housekeeping but although I did like it I didn't love it like the other two.

I would have chosen The Overstory, Lincoln in the Bardo, The Grapes of Wrath,... and I would have to work hard to narrow down to the other two.

Washington Black is so beautifully written. The Overstory surprised me in such a good way. And Eric you should totally have a conversation with Daisy Rockwell - she is such a warm and witty person.

Yes! 👏 I’d like to follow it more closely although the trouble is some of the books aren’t usually published in the UK so must be expensively imported. 😕
