Reluctant Hero - Actually, it’ll be interesting to see if Nintendo gives dedicated handhelds a rest, because of mobile dominance and Nintendo Switch being capable of being portable or if Nintendo brings out a Next Generation handheld with better specs, higher res screens, etc. I want a next generation handheld from Nintendo. I think they can fit at least one more handheld under their belt before calling it quits.

If this was true, it'd be amazing, it would have great qualities and I'd love it. However, when the switch is so successful, I feel that my theory is significantly more realistic. (Nintendo switch mini) plus, my theory makes even more sense when you realize that making these portable aspects better amounts to what you said (mostly anyways) though having a new dedicated console would be nice but I expect nothing. I get all the benefits of being not disappointed and/or getting mindblown.

I picked up a 3DS in 2017 and have been scooping up games for cheap lately. Best time to own a 3DS if you're into single player gaming, but I hear people are still playing games like Mario Kart 7 online.

Radiant historia still criminally underrated. I bought if off some shelf back in the day for the DS and had no clue about it. Just liked the box somehow. While playing I was like wtf this is one of the best JRPGs ever.

My favorite is Radiant história, but i played just Pokémon Y, Monsters Hunter Stories, Monster Hunter 4, Radiant História and now i am playing Tales of the Abbys. Id say tales of the Abbys is been my second favorite 3ds rpg, I am loving its story. I Hope Someday I play most of the 3ds RPG But... By far i should say Xenoblade is my favorite, but i played It on Wii. It is my favorite game of all 😅

I'm really grateful for this list- I would have dismissed Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology and Tales of the Abyss from seeing certain walkthroughs that showed less than desirable graphics (for me). But, after having gotten them and playing both for so many hours, I'm so glad I had gotten both and can't wait to play Dragon Quest 8 when the ridiculous pandemic prices go away lol

I agree. The N3DS is a great system that is undervalued these days. It had wonderful RPGs on it. I have so many favorites on it. Every single one mentioned, near about, I have in my collection. Especially the ShinMegaTen games and the DQ games.

I was curious if you want to do a video on the Nintendo 3ds eshop sale, I was able to get all 6 Shin Megami Tensei games, 5 Etrian games, Persona Q 1 and 2, Stella Glow, Radiant Historia, Conception 2 and 7th Dragon 3 for less then 150 bucks. Great video! I own a Switch with around 80 games, xbox1/360(back compat) with 500+ games, and a ps4 with 100+ games....and guess what? I play my 3ds more than all those combined! All for the RPGS.. All 3 other systems combined cant compare in my opinion to the 3DS/DS Rpg library. And I own them all. 3DS is king in my world👍 (worked my butt off for 25 years to buy my games😁)

I only own FE Echoes. It's a great game but I still like Fates a bit more. Probably because I like Fates' characters more. I was always interested in the SMT Devil Survivor games but I never got them because I don't like playing on small screens so much. Unfortunately there is (yet) no possibility to play DS/3DS games on a TV screen unlike the PlayStationTV for most Vita games so I unfortunately missed some great games.

Same here; I prefer a million times to play on a TV than on a small screen. But unfortunately, there is no other way to play certain games...unless you emulate them on your computer, of course (but emulating the 3ds is really hard, I believe).

This would be nice, though the nature of the touchscreen makes it kind of pointless for some titles in a similar way that some Vita titles simply don't work with PSTV. Good luck playing _DJ Max Technika Tune_ even if you whitelist it. Best hope I can see for DS/3DS titles would be on a touchscreen tablet device to at least up the resolution, and I don't know if Nintendo has had much interest in doing that officially. Hackers have at least gotten DS running on both Wii U and Switch though, so there's that at least. With the Wii U you can probably even use the TV as the main display.

I've heard a New 3DS with CFW can stream to a computer for play on a big screen. Mostly used for streaming but you could just hook your PC up to your TV.

Atlus made for Devil Survivor the idiotic decision to use the smaller screen of the 3DS as the main display of the game, while the big one is left often empty or used only to visualize secondary information.

I disagree, the New 3DS is an entirely new system in a similar vein as the DSi. Don't be fooled by Nintendo marketing them as simply as 3DS or DS respectively. 2DS and 3DS XL are model updates and if all the New 3DS did was integrate the Circle Pad Pro hardware I might agree, but it's far more than just that. Calling New 3DS a model update would be like calling the PSP an updated model of the PS1.

that's a pretty huge leap in logic....PSP games look almost as good as PS2 games, some as good or better even. Literally all the New 3DS does that the non "New" models don't are the extra right "stick" nub, NFC in the touch screen for amiibo support and a few processing improvements. If it truly was meant as a separate system from the previous models there would be a lot more New 3DS only titles. Other than Xenoblade 3D and Fire Emblem Warriors the only games I know of that require a New 3DS are the SNES VC games. Saying they're 2 totally different systems is like saying the updated PS4 & Xbox One models are totally different from the other models of them, when all they do is make their respective games look & run better than previous iterations.

Check out the hardware comparisons between the two models and compare performance of certain titles that technically run on [Old] 3DS but really should only be played on New 3DS. The New 3DS is roughly twice as powerful as the 3DS and the fact that a title like _Xenoblade Chronicles_ doesn't run on the 3DS further highlights the point that these are technically two different consoles. PS4 and PS4 Pro are in a similar situation, but so far as I'm aware there is no such thing as a PS4 Pro only game, but if there was, it would be considered similar to _XBC._ @@newageBoundhippie

2:22 I gave up on DQ7 about 20h in, you had to be super fast on an island dungeon. Which goes counter to everything turn based. Great nice little stories. Nice overarching plot. I'll hold on to SJ for DS, I also have the CD that was a bonus lol. I played RH on ds as well as RH:PC. You can play the demo for free, it's 20 hours or so really long. Unfortunately i got stuck in PC.

One of the oddest additions made to the 3DS port of DQVIII was a new ending where you can choose to fall in love with and marry Jessica instead of the princess. I think it's a bit token, frankly, just added to pander to people who'd go for the hottie with the big tits (who never had any sexual tension with the protagonist in the original) because sexy, rather than the demure and modest childhood friend who spends the majority of the game transformed into a horse, but it's still definitely a rather unexpected addition. The 2 new characters are also rather token, as they're both existing NPCs who just come along with you and upset the party balance (adding 2 more characters to a game that previously had 4 characters to neatly fill the 4 party slots), but you can't say they make the game worse.

When playing Radiant Historia, just to note. Just pick normal. I’m serious, the original difficulty is so good that it fits most everyone. Friendly changes the genre of the game to a descision-based visual novel with light combat elements (yes this is my actual opinion), hard wasn’t balanced at all to the point where they just halfhazardly slapped on resostances and stat increses. Though if you played the original its at least half-decent. Deadly(free dlc), on the other hand, is a steaming pile of crap that came from another dimension meant to be used with other dlc. Without other dlc, it will require TONS of grinding (we’re talking being 20+levels above where you’re supposed tone) ludicrous luck, resource mangement, money grinding and that’s MOST of it. With dlc (exp and money one) removes most of the grinding but is still ludicrously hard frustating mode with seemingly impossible superbosses (has anyone ever beaten epitaph on deadly?)

_Radiant Historia_ was a great game that took me by surprise. Going into it I expected a relatively cliche budget RPG. The 3DS version is a nice way to update the title and get it to a bunch of players that probably overlooked it the first time.

I'm still really annoyed that Tales of the Abyss and both Dragon Quest games weren't ported to the Vita as well, considering that they were originally PlayStation 1/2 exclusives. Ditto for the various non-Persona-4 PS2-era Atlus RPGs and the literally illustrious Okami (I mean, touchscreen brush strokes would have been an obvious course of action!). At least Persona 4 Golden and Odin Sphere Liefthrasir were great, though.

Atlus dropped the ball with 3DS. They released so many amazing original games on DS, and then they just released them again on 3DS. Is it really that hard to develop new games on 3DS?

I mean, they gave it SMT 4, SMT 4 Apocalypse, Persona Q, Persona Q2, Etrian Odyssey 4, Etrian Odyssey 5, Etrian Odyssey Untold, Etrian Mystery Dungeon 1 & 2, and Etrian Odyssey Nexus in addition to the remakes/remasters of Etrian Odyssey 2, Soul Hackers, Strange Journey, Devil Survivor 1 & 2, and Radiant Historia. And at the same time they were also releasing or working on a ton of massive games for the other major consoles, like Persona 4 Golden, Persona 5/P5Royal, Persona 4 Arena, Persona 4 Ultimax, Persona 4: Dancing All Night, Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight, Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight, Catherine/Catherine Full Body, Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, Dragon's Crown/DQPro, and even the PSP remaster/remake of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment.
