Wild Arms 1 got a full on remake on the PS2 called Wild Arms Alter Code F that I'm surprised to see not being mentioned. It pretty much just took Wild Arms 1 and remade it into the same system and graphics design as Wild Arms 3. It was a massive improvement over the original and I consider it an example of an actually good remake because it keeps nearly everything about the original intact while also adding to and improving it.

I only wanted Legend of Legaia and maybe all 7 Ra-Serus will have each playable characters along the way (and not just Vahn, Noa and Gala. Would be a cool remake!). Give us an Earth Ra-Seru user and Water Ra-Seru user, etc with each of their own hyper arts and miracle arts! I also Suikoden II but I'm so happy we are actually getting it soon!

Star Ocean: Second Evolution did get a remaster for the PS4 and Vita in Japan, but it was never released anywhere else for some reason. that said, assuming the divine force does well Square likely will localise it at some point.

Even 2nd Story PS1 never got a PSN port on any system since its not on the PSP Vita PS3 or PS4 and 2nd Evolution NEVER left Japan for its PS4/Vita version those versions had a 2016 release in Japan.

I'd throw Lunar up there as well. Preferably 2 since that one has been neglected for long enough and it's definitely the best in the series. But I'll take either title. It's interesting that Lunar 1 got remade so many times. There's the original Sega CD version. Then it got remade for the PS1/Saturn. Then remade again for the GBA. Then remade for a final time on the PSP. Each version has its own unique charm to them since they are truly remakes and not ports. I find the Sega CD version to be really interesting. I really enjoyed how Alex didn't have magic until Meribia. The contrast between before and after getting magic really shows how powerful a magic user is in the world of Lunar.

Well, at least PS1 and PS2 got fan translations for their remasters on Playstation 2, so it suffices until Sega perhaps decide on official overseas releases. Shining Force/In the Darkness/the Holy Ark could all use remastered upgrades, yes.

Only problem with Parasite Eve is that the author of the original novel pulled the rights from Square because they were greatly disappointed with the second game's direction, and probably ran for the hills when they saw what got plopped out on the PSP with 3rd Birthday. While I know there have been rumblings of a remake in recent years, I wouldn't be surprised if Square possibly just renames everything and radically changes the story to be "original" so they can sidestep the author entirely.

You and I are around the same age and I felt like when I found your channel I had found a long lost brother hahaha because in my teens, I felt like I was the only one to have Star Ocean ,legend of legaia, guardians crusade,jade cacoon, basically all these lesser known jrpgs I loved but none of my friends or classmates knew about. I remember buying the double jewel case of legend of legaia at Kmart for 40 bucks. What a time. When I hear you talk about these lesser known PS1 jrpgs I thought only I knew about in the 90s like a secret trove of treasure, I am happy for your coverage. Nowadays happily they are much better known and not discounted games underneath the FF VIIs and Legend of Dragoons and Spyro etc

Monolith now suck the ninty todger exclusively so very unlikely a PS2 only series like xenosaga will happen. Also, really didn't sell well which is where most of these games ended up. It's not going to get green lit unless they can make a profit and the market for these games, regardless of quality, is small. Emulation is probably as good as it will get for the vast majority of games and there are literally tons of new games in all the JRPG flavours you could want.

Dragon Warrior/quest 1-10 (ported to Steam) Final Fantasy (most of them need some modern love) Suikoden series (I know 1 & 2 are getting the love, but the rest?) ChronoTrigger/Cross (Most of the gameplay is perfect, but I would like to see some love to the sprites and effects) Grandia (all of them!!) And of course, I would love to see a first person view VR remake of most games.

Theres something i see some games doing, that is, when the camera has to go behind a wall, this wall's opacity reduces, or the wall vanishes (just keeping the hitbox), and i feel that is the perfect solution for the camera problems in most of those games for a remake. Because that way the camera doesnt have to get closer to you because of a wall, and you wont be forced to stare at the crotch of the boss while he kicks your ass in a corner. As for my pick for jrpgs i think deserve a remaster, i wholeheartedly agree with all of those, and specifically for BoF i think CAPCOM should do a collection, like they did for megaman games, but remastering some aspects of the games. That might be dreaming too much. But i honestly feel those games are great as they are and dont need graphical changes, just QoL and adapting to modern hardware resolutions and screen sizes (hopefully even adding 16:9 option, but probably would just be 4:3 with a border :c its ok if its beautiful art). Popolocrois 1 and 2 from ps1 could use a modern port too with all the remastering they have the right to receive. The psp version was a nice lil treat, but thats about it, and its been 700 years since then too. Vargrant story. this badboy deserves a remaster adding all the content it had to cut cuz of hardware limitations, just add even more content even, and adding a great voice acting, this game is so delicious to replay, and its so atmospheric and vibey. if the remaster turned it into a braindead hack n slash with a different ost i would travel to japan and beat the ass of square enix's executives in a street fight. Valkyrie profile ps1, Grandia for saturn in those cases just really port with good qol changes for modern hardware cuz they aged amazing. Also not a remaster but i wish a new, classic jrpg style, phantasy star would appear. I like the action mmos, the most recent not so much but Blue Burst and 2 yes, but still, man Phantasy Star 4 is SOOO fucking amazing, and this franchise had so much potential to be so much more than a boring ass MMO without any content just to justify selling cosmetics (new genesis), OG pso2 was great but still i think they really need to start making single player Phantasy Star games again, be them turn based or action, just bring em, its a diservice and sad for such a fantastic franchise to just be forgotten and reduced to a online shop for cosmetics to a boring mmo without content. Also, super mario rpg, bring more nintendo, bring more. xD

I beat Parasite Eve for the first time not too long ago and I'd love a remaster or well thought out remake....also NEED a remake of PE2 as the tank controls and some clunky mechanics make it impossible for me to physically play also: Tales of Destiny & Tales of Eternia Dragon Quest 4-7 ( though 4-6 should be based off the DS remakes & 7 off the 3DS version.... ) RoboTrek Secret of Evermore Illusion of Gaia Super Mario RPG ( if we can't get it on NSO, maybe we could get a remaster... ) Legend of Legaia Thousand Arms Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete & Eternal Blue Complete Arc the Lad 1-3 Vagrant Story Marvelous: Another Treasure Island ( more Zelda like than RPG and focused on puzzles but still worth mentioning IMO )

The thing with Phantasia is it's been remastered a fair number of times now with each one having a slight difference. PS1 gave us a new optional character to play with, PSP versions gave us 2 where 1 gave us full voice acting and the other giving us another new character while reworking the gameplay portion of it. We never got that in the west, best we got was the GBA version which while alright, is pretty inferior compared to the other versions

One thing all the modern remasters need to have in common in my opinion is fast forward and the option to skip cutscenes. I still like most of the games I liked 20-30 years ago, but I often don't have the patience to deal with everything that came with the game anymore. I recently got the platinum for FF X on PS4 and boy was it annoying at times. It's not even the oldest and things still were tedious at times, like all the monster arena farming and watching the same Overdrives again and again and again (I farmed Earth Eater with Tidus for example) was not much fun.

Remember the quest in breath of fire 4 where you have to find the kids through town? The poor camera made me crazy there! And the character should run in diagonals too, that would make the game much better!

The only thing about Breath of Fire IV that should be updated is moving from a grid-based field movement style to free-form field movement. The music, sprites, and battle mechanics are all amazing. A resolution increase while keeping pixel ratio wouldn't be unwelcome, though.

Talking about Legend Of Dragoon's gameplay made me curious about which game was the first to have timed button presses because it's my favorite mechanic. I thought it was gonna be the Japanese release of Super Mario RPG(March 9th 1996) but the earliest example I found was the Japanese release of Beyond The Beyond(November 3rd 1995)

It's already a great game (untouchable soundtrack and story) but the visuals were dated even back when the game was released! A remake (with additional content since Disc 2 was rushed back in 1998) would be wonderful!

With Tales of Phantasia, I would prefer the PSP ToP X version. It was released with Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X. Makes the combat full real time, no more pauses with spells or summonings. It would need to have the battles rebalanced properly but it does have some sprite upgrades for the main characters. Considering the retro look is in, the fact the game is based off the PS1 version should not hold it back. As for Star Ocean 2, yes. Just yes. After beating First Departure R on my Switch, I would really like that. Hopefully, Divine Force sells well enough.

There's actually a PSP remaster for Phantasia! Tales of Phantasia X added a better aspect ratio to accomodate with the console, adds full voice acting to the story and improved battles closer to Eternia's gameplay but a bit more refined. It's def the best version of the game, but of course, japanese only and no fan translation, the usual for Tales. :/

11:45 I hate to break it to you, but there is no chance in hell that if Square returns to Xenogears they're going to leave the battle system turn based, especially since the original already gave us a taste of the battle system they originally wanted for the game via the arena in Kislev.

For me, Breath of Fires I, II, III and V would need remasters. Gensou Suikodens III, IV and V as well. For me with the original WIld Arms, I would want to see a remaster where it converts the 3D battles to 2D in a way that looks similar to the Lunar battles. What I would love to see is the character equipment visible on the characters as it always looks so cool when equipping it. Wild Arms 2 and 3 look fine to me although a remaster of both for them would still be appreciated. I would love a Digimon World Remaster and I know that this isn't going to happen, but just for the fun of it a Pokemon Gens 1 and 2 HD remasters like with games like Gensou Suikodens I and II rather than the Fire Red, Leaf Green and other remakes. As with NixXu's comment, I too would love to see a Arc the Lad remaster and I would aaaaalso love to see remasters of Vandal Hearts 1, 2 and Flames of Judgement.

Personal list of games I wish had remasters - Tales of Phantasia - Arc the Lad - Lunar - Sands of Destruction - Bahamut Lagoon - Chrono Trigger - Black Blade (Chrono Trigger's less polished but still pretty good 'cousin') - Summon Night Swordcraft Story 1 and 2 (haven't played 3) - Luminous Arc - Arc Rise Fantasia - Mugen Frontier - Vagrant Story - Golden Sun (or preferrably a continuation of the Dark Dawn cliffhanger) - Sword of Mana (the often overlooked over its sister games in the Mana series) - The original other 9 FF games (VII is good and all but come on it's not the only one fans loved and yeah I'm aware of the Pixel Remasters of the first six) - 7th Dragon - SaGa 3 - Soma Bringer - Oh, and don't forget the idk pretty niche name of SHINING FORCE, maybe? There's an entire forgotten series of honestly pretty fun strategy rpgs that give FF Tactics and Tactics Ogre a run for its money. off of the top of my head.

Wild Arms 2 I remember a flying fortress in the ocean I think the direction to get there was just wrong, also maybe that same fortress might of had a secret area that wasn't even mentioned in the player guidebook. I think staying at a specific hotel 5x is part of a side quest to get LV2 and LV3 magic i think you could beat the game and never learn there upgrade abie magic Parasite Eve i want its original book first in English. I would be fine with a HD trilogy as long as there a Fastforward button but for a remake, i do believe this series has the potential to be as big as modern resident evil

I'd like a total remake of the first two breath of fire aswell, with updated graphics, battle system and story. Zoid legacy/ Zoids saga 1 and 2 on the gba/DS was awsome, never seen another RPG collectable Zoids game since that era.

I get the feeling if they made a remaster for Wild Arms 1, they'd remaster Alter Code F instead, even though it's very different from the original.

Would like a remastered Parasite Eve for all modern systems, especially the Switch. Would like to see difficulty selector with an easy mode that gives more Bonus Points per fight.

I guess if no one else is going to say it then i will, but a damn good JRPG that i feel is constantly overlooked and is one of my personal favorites, Skies of Arcadia Legends. This JRPG to me is so damn beautiful and with today's modern graphics i think it would look amazing as a remake. Perhaps in the form of a Xenoblade 2 or 3 anime art style would suit it best. It is a very colorful game and that art style would fit it perfectly.

Someone called the PSP retro the other day and I thought I was going to disappear in a cloud of dust on the spot! 😢 In all seriousness, great list. For many of these, it would just be nice to have them playable on modern consoles/Steam. Especially Terranigma (and the rest of the trilogy). Here’s hoping ActRaiser Renaissance did enough to convince SQEX to at least port them.

Good list but really the one I'd like to see...one of my favorites of all time, and I've been gaming since Commodore,...drum roll. Shadow Hearts. 1 and 2 are great. 3 is, well. It's ok.

I would love all three games of the Tactics Ogre subseries to get remastered. The original is my favorite console SRPG but I never got past chapter 2 in 64 so that might change if I got to finish the game and the Neo Geo Pocket color side story to the first game is the only game in the franchise never released in the west.

I think one that deserves a remaster are the tactic based awesome mech RPGs games Front Mission, 3 and 4 were my absolute favorites 5 never got released stateside and the last one was an abomination to be called Front mission evolution and wasnt a true Front mission to me. (it was more armored core than front mission)

Tales of phantasia best version is the psp full voice one and that's the one truly stayed in japan as it does not even have a fan translation.

I agree with everything on this list and I have a few others I would love to see: Phantasy Star 1-4: While 1 and 2 were remade for the PS2 and never left Japan, what I'm talking about is remastering all 4 games for all platforms and regions so everyone can get them this time. Final Fantasy Tactics: Aged really well IMO, but I think most would agree it would be amazing with a remaster. Breath of Fire 1-3: Just worth officially listing them. I'd be happy with any of them getting remade...except Dragon Quarter. That game needs to be tossed and a real Breath of Fire 5 made. Phantasy Star 3 would need an actual full blown remake. Phantasy Star 3 in its current form is so disappointing. It doesn't do that good of a job establishing itself as being part of the same universe as the game after it and the games before it (aside from one hint of it taking place after Phantasy Star 2). Some of the enemy designs are unusual for the series. The battle UI is baffling. Then there's the fact the generational storyline was held back big time by the limitations of the Genesis hardware. Final Fantasy Tactics received a pretty big update via War of the Lions. They should just further polish up War of the Lions.

Fatigue system is great. Adds another layer of strategy to the already amazing games. FE4 is hopefully the next remake

@@user-pv9pv4xf9c it will eventually happen but so far we have been in order (1-3) with remakes so 4 makes the most sense. GBA games have aged really well but I have no doubt that in like a decade we will see some GBA remakes

@@user-xn5me8iz7c you never know. Nintendo might take like 3-4 years between each release. They take their time on everything but they do produce good stuff so I don’t complain. I’m pumped for Engage. I really like what I’m seeing so far.

I was about to riot ... until Xenogears appears, I need a remake so hard, and if they make it hack and slash I will play it anyways because this is the JRPG that I can go back to play anytime. Square-Enix gives us the second disk that we deserve!.
