Just as a heads up, DeDRM tools will not remove DRM for rented books, library books, Kindle Unlimited, books from your friend, or anything you don't own on Amazon. Brilliant!! Followed this for an old Dell Laptop running Win10 Very well explained with examples, complete coverage. I follwed your instructions explicitly. 1. De-registered the latest version of Kindle. I couldn't find V1.26 from Github, but I downloaded the V1.17 2. Installed that.Downloaded my Kindle books to a new "Content" folder. All books in one folder. 3. Updated my Calibre to latest version, created a new library folder. 4. Downloaded the DRM Tools v7.2.1. 5. Converted to EPUB as that's more universal Thanks so much.👍👍👍

@@Insertnotrealname You need Wine for the Kindle app, which is not available on Linux. The Plug-in on the calibre app needs to be connected to the Kindle app. If the kindle app is located in the separate directories for the emulated apps, then the plug-in may not be able to find its location. By using calibre with wine, you make the kindle and plug-in in the same directory, that way the plug-in can locate and connect to the kindle app. From this point, the operation can just be carried out in Wine, and then you can move the files out afterwards, but easier is to grab the locator file created by the plug-in in Wine, and use that for the non-Wine calibre app. The file just points to where the kindle app is located, and that's all that is needed. The Wine version of calibre can then be removed, and the operation can be done with the linux calibre.

Yes!! Thank you!. For anyone having issues with V1.17 I found advice from the Calibre team on what you need to do. I was trying to sign in with 1.17 but it wasn't working. Fix: 1) delete the content in the My Kindle Content folder. 2) Deregister V1.17 (if need be); I deleted the Kindle content first, then went to DeRegister V1.17 to find it was not registered; I then registered V1.17 and downloaded the content. 3) Start Calibre and import the Kindle book(s) and convert. Works perfectly!

Another way to do this, is by double-clicking the de-DRM plug in, you are then able to enter the serial number of an old Kindle e-reader. Have the ebook sent to the Ereader, then import the file into Calibre after connecting the Ereader to the computer with a USB cable.

Worse thing is using DRM crap they geoblock your access to book. Like you bought in Amazon US and moved to other country and bingo you can't access any of the books. So this is a very practical thing that you keep a DRM free copy as backup regardless. Plus if you wanna share your book with a friend or family like you can with physical book you can do that too.

I have followed the steps and manage to remove the DRM lock, but regardless of the file format, I get lots of junk. So I get no clear text at all. Only the Cover page is as it should be but everything else is just rubbish text. I have tried installing different Kindle versions. Have also tested with different versions of Caliber and other versions of the DeDRM plugin. The book I want to convert is from 2019. Something you recognize and can help me with?

Eric, I fixed the KFX-ZIP problem; but I'm not quite sure how? :) What I did was I deregistered and then uninstalled the version 'Kindle reader' I had installed on my PC. I then did everything in your video - installed Calibre and added the two plugins - but before I did anything else I deleted the folders in C:/users/"my name"/documents that said 'My Kndle Content' I then installed Kindle reader 1.17, registered it and then right clicked on the book thumbnail (in kindle 1.17) and re-download it! - it then came in as a AZW3 file rather than a KFX-ZIP file. (It seems the book remained as a KFX-ZIP on my PC until I manually deleted those folders and then manually asked to download the book) Thanks for all your help, Eric

@@EricMurphyxyz What I think it was is that you have to re-download the book you wish to convert after it is automatically detected by your newly installed version of Kindle reader (should it be 1.17 or 1.26) by right clicking on the book thumbnail and downloading -- otherwise it just shows up again as a KFZ-ZIP file because it links to your "My Kindle Content" folder rather than downloading from the cloud --- if you follow me?

I bought my book on amazon on 29.07.2023 and I can no longer use version 1.17 or 1.32 of the kindle app and download the book and the kindle app does not allow it, it asks to update to version 1.40 and when I use the current one, 1.40 the app EPUBOR can't decrypt and asks to downgrade to version 1.32 and so I can't get rid of the DRM. I'm using 1.26 and it didn't work even with all the plugins I installed and everything. I wonde rif I'm picking the wrong zip folders but I don't think that I am I followed your video. It would be great if you could include some scenes in your video where you're going to the website from a blank tab and then also opening it up from a new windows explorer window rather than the preset windows you already have pulled up. Is it just telling you that it can't convert the file? You could try using a different version. Some others in the comments have had success with 1.17 when 1.26 didn't work, for example.

Installed Calibre for the first time and I think something may be wrong with it - takes over a minute to display the cover art for a decently sized textbook and the remainder never loads. Followed the steps exactly, using the correct versions of everything. I have a very high-end PC and I can compress and convert 4K HDR movies faster than I can open this textbook, very puzzling to me. Any ideas?

You may have to turn off automatic updates in v1.17. I think you can turn off your internet, uncheck automatic updates in the settings, then turn the internet back on, but you may need to do some searching exactly how to disable updates.
