The Ford joke is great because other vice-presidents may have stepped in when a president died, but they had all been on the ticket running as the veep. Ford was the warm body who replaced Agnew, Nixon's original vice-president.

Interesting. I never cared much for politics, nor cared enough about history to pay much attention, nor retain much of what I learned during social studies classes in school. So I never got that joke before. But now I do, in that I assume the joke is that Ford doesn't consider voting very integral to the process because he just kind of had the position fall into his lap.

I love all the recording jokes. Nixon recorded everything-then it got him in trouble! I was born around the Watergate era. So, I’m too young to remember his presidency. But my dad hated Nixon, and I grew up hearing all about it. When I was two, he taught me to say, “Nixon, yuck!”
