Happy holidays Eric. On a few occasions, my D7000 gave me a plain ERR message, yes I freaked out at first. What I usually do is take off the lens and shoot a few frames, take out the battery for a few secs after. I suspected the issue was with the Vello Grip. I stopped using the grip and haven't seen the error since. I am not bad mouthing Vello as I own a few Vello equipment. My grip was a couple yrs old and I guess it's seen its days.

Hi all, I've been using EOS 1100D for almost 4 years without any issues. A couple of days back I shot a few pictures, and took the memory card out of the camera to copy the photos in my laptop. On putting the card back in the camera, the LCD did not power up. But I am able to view settings like shutter speed, aperture, ISO from the viewfinder. So, I tried to take a picture with it. On this point, the camera takes the mirror up, waits a while, and then the viewfinder shows a blinking "err" message. No error codes shown. Just a blinking "err" message in the viewfinder. Also, LCD does not power up. No matter what I do. Here is the complete list of issues: 1. LCD does not power up. 2. Camera lets me shoot only one picture. But the mirror locks up for a while, and viewfinder shows blinking err 3. Memory card has no pictures after taking the photo. 4. Autofocus is working. Able to pop the built-in flash with the button. 5. Once the "err" starts blinking, nothing works. Not even autofocus. 6. Only way to stop "err" message is to remove the battery and reinsert once again. Here's what I did till now in order to get it working (but didn't solve the issue): 1. Take the battery out. Charge it completely. Reinsert it. 2. Take the memory card out. Format it from laptop. Reinsert it. 3. Start the camera without memory card. Still the LCD doesn't power up. Doesn't solve the blinking err message. 4. Cleaned the Lens and Camera contact points with a cloth. No help. 5. Tried a different lens (Sigma 70-300mm / Canon 18-55mm). No help. 6. Tried powering up the camera without lens. Still no luck. 7. Tried a battery from same camera model (borrowed from my friend). No luck. Does any one encounter issue like this with Canon? Does anyone know how to solve this issue? Any help appreciated. Thanks!

I have a nikon d7500 and use a 200mm to 500mm lens to shoot with. All was going well for a couple of years. Now get Err messages only when I use this lens. My F stop flashes when on F5.6. The Err messages happen using Shutter Speed, Aperture, Manual even on Auto. Have tried everything. Even a Firmware update doesn't solve it.

I had the Err- problem yesterday on my d7000. Mirror locked up and finally worked for a minute and then locked and wouldn’t move at all. I have all new stuff and didn’t,know,what to do. Cleaned the lens contacts and all that but didn’t change a thing. What I did to finally fix it was to take the lens off, took my thumb and lifted the mirror to see if anything was bent or stuck. I finally figured that I will clean the hinges on the mirror. Got a cue tip and some alcohol lifted the mirror and dabbed the hinges and area around the edges of the mirror. Also did the contacts on the lens and camera body. Blew a little air in it and --good to go. I was just dirty.

sounds like theres either wear in the battery terminal or just some wiring issues. Nothing much else besides getting Nikon or a repair shop to check it out unfortunately

here's one for you: D90 flash is popped up, when button half depressed camera uses focus assistant light, lens focuses, beep when in focus but pressing shutter release button all the way-nothing happens. when flash closed-camera takes pictures. During the problem-on the top display, rectangle around flash symbol is blinking. Any idea ?

i would think its more of a serious error at that point. The only thing you could try is a new battery but thats def a deeper issue

Hi Eric, I had a "motherboard" issue so I replaced it. Now the top LCD only gives me the battery status and ALWAYS (camera switched on or off) in small capitals "CLOCK". Any idea what could be the cause of this??? It is a D7000

never heard of these issues, thats beyond errors. I would try setting your camera to default factory settings in the menu. If anything I would reach out to Nikon or whoever replaced your motherboard and ask whats up.

Hey Eric. I get an r99 error only when using my 18-200M nikon lens. It will take pictures, then would stop and show r99. Turning the power off and on resolves it for a little bit, but it comes back again. What is the cause for r99?

I would try resetting your camera settings back to default. Or check to make sure your sd card isnt locked. If this fails, and theres no error code, you may need to just reach out to Nikon customer service.

R11 shows in viewfinder. I called Nikon and they said not to worry BUT if it has to do w/ 'only 11 shots left till buffer is full'....how come its not going away.....it was never there and always is there....

My camera is downstairs. It is a refurbished Nikon D 3400, refurbished by Nikon. The secure digital card is a class 10 . I can’t think of the name. When I spoke to Nikon I took that card out and put a brand and the R11 still came up however I did not try to format that card. I have had this camera for a year, I have not used it exclusively if this is something that just recently became evident in the viewfinder. Again I cannot understand how a buffer can be filled with only 11 shots left, and not be emptied somehow. While Nikon told me not to worry about it as it is not actually an error message, something does not seem right

I would see if there are any issues or dirty contacts on the back of the lens. Could also be the electronic contacts in the camera too. Try cleaning with a clean q tip

So thats not really an error but more of a buffering issue. What kind of SD, memory cards, are you using? Without knowing, it sounds like you are using slower cards and the buffer is filling up after taking 10 photos. You have to wait for the buffer to clear and write the photos, then you can photograph again.

I have a strange issue, my lens (Nikon 60mm F/2.8 AF-D micro) works perfectly when set to S (Single Shot) mode on all modes (PSAM) but when I changed the dial to something such as QC/Q/Self Timer, the lens won't get recognised and gives me a FEE error only on P and S modes. It's been driving me crazy, I'm starting to think it's a function rather than a bug because the lens works perfectly on Single Shot mode. Does anyone have any ideas?

typically CHR is a memory card issue. So I would try formatting the memory card if you can see your screen or try a different memory card to see if it helps. So either its a bad card, the card is full or the card just needs to be formatted

I have a Nikon D3500. It's the third Nikon DSLR that I've owned. I own a small photography business but, mostly I'm just a nurse. All this being said, my camera was working just fine. Two weeks later, I take my fully charged battery and inserted it into the camera and it wouldn't turn on. It literally would do nothing. I ordered replacement batteries. Charged those and inserted one of them and it still would not do anything, it will not turn on period. I tried the second new battery (Idk why....out of desperation) Any way, it will not turn on and obviously won't do anything else. Everything else I've found online just mentions the battery.

The dreaded blinking ChA can be fixed by removing the card and putting it back in no need to Format and lose images. Try this instead and you can keep shooting out in the field

Hi Eric! This video solved my dilemma which was why my D50’s shutter release was not working. You said to set the aperture to the highest aperture. I did and it worked but only at f22. I’m sure I was able to use the aperture ring to select other f-stops. Can you explain? Or do I need to get the camera to a technician? Thanks so much. Eric Rossi Hi! It doesn’t seem to matter. A Tamron AF and a Nikon AF. It stopped working after I switched out the Tamron for the Nikon. I’ve cleaned all the contacts as you suggested but still will only work on F22.

To the fEE error, you can also go into the menu settings and change the command dials to aperture ring so you can actually use the aperture ring on the older lens. Handy for shooting video if your dslr doesn't have power aperture. But I think this only works on the higher end cameras..not sure if they work on the entry level bodies.

The camera could simply be dead or the batteries, even though "full" could not be good anymore. I'd try a new battery or the log in adapter and see if that helps. But if not, it could be a camera thing sadly

you could try using a q tip on the electronic contacts on the back of the lens to see if its dirty. If the contacts arent clean things like that could happen.

My nikon D750 has an error on SLOT 1 to where it doesn't read any card that I insert. Repair costs $250.00, is there anything that know of that I can do to repair this issue? All of the cards work in SLOT 2.

nah, if theres an issue with the slot theres an issue. The only thing is there could be dust or something in there, you could try a quick burst of compressed air

No if you are using an older lens with the aperture ring you have to keep it at the highest stop. But it doesn't matter you control the aperture through the camera so nothing to worry about. Also since you say you are getting a d5000 line camera, that does not have an autofocus motor. So make sure you get a lens with one if you need autofocus

The command dial on my Nikon d5200 has stopped working and I am forced to shoot in the Auto mode. I have upgraded the firmware to the latest version and the it does not solve the problem. Is there anything I can do to fix the problem? The camera is out of warranty.

seems like its a camera issue at that point if its physically stuck. I would send it to Nikon to check out, not much you can do.

Eric, Maybe you can help or point me in the right direction? Recently bought a used almost like new looking D2x with a bent memory card reader pin right in the center of the cluster. I pulled both batteries and after getting the pin straight was able to insert card. What i noticed is the green light that tells you card is being connected took a long time to go off, usually this only takes three to four seconds when thing are normal. Then i get a CHA and a blinking card Icon on the top LCD shutter will not fire, cleaned the lens contacts. The body will auto focus meter will work in all modes rear LCD works and am able to run through the menus. What i also did was try to format in camera it starts but just sits there and does no formatting tried three different cards, reset the camera. Tried reformat in computer (and they formatted) so i know it's not the cards they worked in my other D2x and D2h. I'm thinking the reader is shorted but i hope the actual board is not but can't get any info on how to verify this. As i am planning on replacing the reader as it was a cheap buy $40.00, but hate to find out the actual circuit board has issues as well. Hate seeing something sitting looking like a Sexy useless paper weight as these cameras are not extinct yet.. Thank you.

Yeah it sounds like there is one then more issues electronically. It's worth a shot repairing it since its cheaper but if anything worse, you'd be in the same spot regardless.

I pulled out my older Nikon D200. When I hold the trigger down the camera will take two pictures on CL and on taking the third picture the camera stops and inside the view finder a ERR code starts blinking and the only way to stop it is to hit the trigger. Any ideas on what’s going on? Thank you in advance.

Eric Rossi yes, then it shoots twice and in the third picture it freezes. I’ve already cleaned the contacts in the camera and on the lens. Using a Nikon 20mm lens.

Recently bought a d700 and a 1.8 Nikon series E lens. I can’t change the aperture, no matter what mode I’m in my camera displays an “L” under the “A” when I’m in aperture priority mode

I have a D7100 and the memory card light flashes continuously when the camera is shut down. works fine when powered on .. have tried reformatting but no fix. any ideas? only 2000 shutter count.
