We are inching ever closer to the conclusion of Jerry Hall's 2003 Nissan Sentra SE-R. In this episode we install the tires. I know, it's not terribly exciting, but it's made the best overall improvement in the way the vehicle handles and drives. There's a test drive in the video to prove it.

@ericthecarguy
@ericthecarguy 9 жыл бұрын
+Bogdan Bacanu Not offended at all. You're just expressing an opinion and if you want to unsubscribe, that's your prerogative. But I don't think your assessment is accurate as far as repair videos go. Just on this vehicle alone, in the past couple of months I repaired, the power steering rack, the hight psi power steering hose, the brakes, the ball joint, the timing chain, the water pump, the air tube, the valve cover noise, the tires in this video which addressed the suspension issues, and a bunch of other stuff you haven't even seen yet. Not to mention the video I just did on steel braided brake lines recently. As for being a money hog, not even close to the truth. If that was the case, I would not use my resources to help people with the Fixing it Forward project. Nor would I go through the time and expense to have viewers come to my shop for my annual 'Meet Up's' in appreciation of their support. In summary, I strongly disagree with your assessment of my work and especially my motivation for doing it. From where I sit, I think you're just jealous of what it is I do for a living. If that's the case, give it a shot. See if you can reach this level,l and then your opinion might carry a bit more weight. Right now, it really does seem like you need a cheese sandwich. You're the one that came off offended. I was just having a little fun with you and your comments. If you can't take what you dish out, you don't need to comment.

+Bogdan Bacanu Once again, you're expressing an opinion that's not based on fact. ETCG1 videos have always been once a week. I'm not producing any more of those than I have in the past. As for rebuilding engines and the like, I've been working very hard putting together the parts and shoot days I need to get the Fairmont project off the ground which covers much of what you're looking for. Also, I just shot a TON of videos pulling parts in the salvage yard a couple of weeks ago that also fall into line with your requests. In short, I'm working on giving you exactly what you're asking for, and it's not enough. THAT is my point. At this point with my channel, no matter what I do, someone is going to have an issue with it. I've just come to accept this as part of the job. You can't please everyone as they say. There are a variety of reasons for this, but I assure you, it's not because of a lack of effort on my part. I've been working harder than I ever have to produce the best videos I can since the beginning. In fact, I'm putting out 4 videos a week in some cases. Yes, my channel has changed, but are you the same person you were 7 years ago? I doubt it. As for endorsements, I only endorse the things I know work. If you're referring to tool reviews, I don't get paid for those, and I only post those every other week and repair videos every week. Which means there are twice as many repair videos as there are tool reviews. Your accusations don't hold water. They may be your opinions, and that's fine. But don't come out saying I don't produce repair videos. What you might say is that I don't produce videos you want to watch. If that's the case, there are plenty of other people doing this now that you can watch and complain to when they change into something you don't like anymore. It's real easy to criticize, it's not so easy to create something and put it out into the world. That was my challenge to you in my last comment.

Hey Eric, just some mounting tips from a guy that did it for years. Only single break the front side and doubt(or triple) break the back side of the rim. This usually prevents having to remove the rim and re-breaking the backside. Some low-pro's and rim styles still may have to be re done but should save you some time. Secondly I know they are older alloys but outside clamp the rims. It prevents the scratches and pits from inside clamping Otherwise I love what you're doing. Keep it up.

Put a set of those Premier A/S on my Subaru about two years ago and was also shocked how much they improved the ride. Highly recommended. They're still going strong -- but you really notice the shorter initial thread depth as they wear. I know these are designed that way -- but I can't shake that feeling that these should be replaced long before they hit the wear bars. They're going to look bald with that much tread.

I noticed something I thought was cool last time I had tires mounted on aluminum rims. The guys in the tire shop have an electric 4.5" grinder with a bristle disk mounted on it, and they just held it to the bead mounting surface and let the tire machine spin the wheel. It was even faster than what Eric is doing and left a nice clean surface.

Tires do make a difference. I had to replace the BF Goodrich Touring T/A Sport's with some one-hung-lo brand tires (Prime Well) on an impulse buy (needed them bad- had a flat, they were also worn, plus price was right). I could immediately tell a difference. They were about the same with road noise (BF Goodrich was quieter), the steering wasn't as sharp, and the ride was bouncier. Plus the steering wheel started shaking/vibrating at 65 mph after 30,000 miles. I recently replaced them with some Falken Sincera tires (which were cheaper) and now it's better. No vibration (even before the alignment) the steering is good, ride's good, it's a little quieter at highway speeds. No, not as good as the BF Goodrich tires (which were about $200 more expensive than the Falkens), but to prove the point, yes, tires do make a big difference! Get the best ones you can afford. Stay away from no-name Chinese ones.

Wow so that's how tire machines are supposed to sound, lol. I've had a chinese knockoff machine for the past 11 years. It's noisy and crude, but does the job. Boy, I could use that little roller you have there! Sometimes I fight with certain sized tires. Just yesterday I couldn't even dismount a pair of aftermarket 20"wheels for a Chevy pickup - I couldn't get that super-wide tire into the drop-center! Another set of rollers would've helped there. That tilt option is a nice feature too. Mine lacks that. Got to get a plastic guard for my bead breaker like that one has - mine has never had one. Got to be very careful with it. Overall it's been pretty reliable for a chinese unit. Broke a few things over the years, but not as many as you'd think. I'm on my second balancer though - the first one developed a strange issue where the display and buttons would totally freeze up below 45° out in my barn. Got 5 years out of it. It still worked if you hit the display with a heat gun first, so I was able to get a couple hundred for it on Craigslist, and bought a new WB-41 from Greg Smith Equipment. So far, on year 5 now, that one has been flawless. Yep - always fill with the core out of the stem - it's 10x faster. :)

Glad you changed the tyres on that Nissan with some decent rubber, however the Falken ZE912 was a good tyre when they where new, however I am guessing that those tyres have been around for quite some time, so they would be rock hard. A friend of mine has the newer Falken ZE914's on his 2003 Saab 9-3 Aero and they are a fantastic tyre, grip like poop to a blanket.

I must say that the pick up on nissans is very good, and especially on that Sport version Sentra. I remember one time I had a murano as a rental and that thing also went from 0 to 60 in the blink of an eye and drove very smoothly. Kinda sucks that the abs doesn't work on the car but not the end of the world. My aunts old Legacy Outback had that system go out after some sort of accident she had with it and she drove it for a while like that and eventually got it fixed, it wasn't cheap.

I watched a Scotty Kilmer video on tires....he said that his wife had complained that her car rode hard. It had the same Falkens on it that the Sentra had, and he replaced them---he said there was a huge difference.

There is differences of what's on the inside and outside of all tire sidewalls, one side will always have the complete DOT number. First two tires were mounted opposite sides out it appears, not a big deal at all but the little things count!

Going from Ohtsu F/P 0612 A/S (or Falken Ziex 612) to Michelin's is going to be a MASSIVE difference. Its pretty much going from entry level to some of the best you can buy.

Other than it having two separate chains in the timing set and you having to replace the rack, what you did on this car is what I typically do on most cars I buy and work on for friends. Suspension work is so simple and most engine work is just getting around tight places. It always makes me so mad to see people get rid of a car that wouldn't take much effort to fix just because they don't know anything about a car.
@kennedy796
@kennedy796 8 жыл бұрын
but why would it make you mad? the more people with money to spend that cannot fix cars, the more potential customers you have. no matter what, if it moves, it will break. the service people and people with these skills are becoming more and more prevalent.
@hellcat1988
@hellcat1988 8 жыл бұрын
kennedy796 I get mad because those people end up making stupid mistakes that take more to fix than would otherwise be needed. When someone runs a car out of oil or coolant, it's a lazy or ignorant mistake that can end up turning a small leak patch job to a full on engine replacement. When you're dealing with families who don't have $300-$1000 to spend on repairs, it can make the rest of the year more difficult for them. I've had people who couldn't afford to fix a car that was otherwise in decent shape have to buy a car that was in worse condition just because it still moved. You'd be amazed how many times I've come across cars that don't even start any more that only actually need a tune up and regular maintenance like plugs/plug wires/fuel filter to be driving again. It also leads to more problems for people like me who don't buy newer cars. My truck, for instance, needs WAY more work than it would have if people had either kept up with maintenance or done repairs right in the first place. Hell, most of the videos on my channel are me fixing other people's laziness or mistakes during repairs. And the silicone... My god the silicone....

Hi Eric, I have a Honda Ridgeline and tow my RV with it. I just got back from my longest trip to WV. The Ridgeline is rated to tow 5000LBS and my RV is at 4500LBS. I hit 5000 rpm,s a couple of times ( Red line 6000 )My question is do you think this has harmed my engine? I love this truck and it is a 2007 and never have had any problems. I also can say that it has done everything I have asked it to do except slow down on drinking the gas LOL.

@ericthecarguy

Hello Ericthecarguy I have a 2001 Honda civic and ive owned it for about 2 to maybe 3 years I cant be sure, I think 2 though, my question is about the brake fluid and the transmission fluid. since I have owned the car neither of these things have been replaced, I just recently learned how to change my oil and my coolant, ive done both and not im trying to figure out if I need to do the brake fluid and transmission fluid but I do not know how I would know if I needed to change these fluids, any tips, or reply would be hugely appreciated :) Thanks. Great video Eric! I've learned a lot watching you. Question though. When I go to the gas station to fill my tires with their automatic gauge the PSI is different than my little handheld cheapo gauge. Usually about a 4 PSI difference. Does it make more sense to trust the reading on the digital display attached to their hose? I'm not sure how often they're calibrated, nor how well my little one holds a calibration. It's a cheap walmart one.

+EricTheCarGuy I love me some new tires too. I picked up a set of Cooper Zeon, 215 45 R17s, nice and wide and super sticky. Only problem was I tested them and they hooked and cornered nicely, however I cornered too hard and ended up trashing the wheel bearing lol..... They worked a little too well. Oh well... thought it was just the tires being noisy as they were labeled as 'High Performance' but up on the hoist it was the wheel bearing.
