This story arc and the initial Dragon mini series are my favorite stuff by Larsen. This is his peak work IMO. I really enjoy the extensive use of zip-a-tone he employs in that stuff.

It's crazy to see how good Larsen was with this Spider-Man run. The hatching and shading is so phenomenal in these issues. His earlier Amazing Spider-Man work looks so flat in comparison. This really is the best Marvel work he has done.

Rule of cool. This is a fun book, so I'll allow it. Also, elevated octopus to probably top 3 most iconic spidey villains.

You're thinking of Chichester. McDaniel was the artist.

… always loved hob goblin. Todd Macfarlane's rendition is still a pinnacle I hope to achieve one day.

This was the 1st Spider-Man comic I bought. Loved the art but not how Eric's Hulk looked. I was spoiled by Dale Keown's rendition. I had started reading comics at the end of the grey hulk run, and loved the new Hulk almost as much as the grey Hulk. Anyway, hated that Hulk was beat. I felt like it made sense and wouldn't happen again. However, it was an effective way to get a badguy over (especially an old-fashioned one). I was sold on that dominant victory. When Peter David and Dale ran it back, I was like, "Good!" But it looked like a flukey squash match. These fights felt like a double-reverse Rocky III. I wanted a third war so they could settle the score, and I wanted it to be epic. Anyway, it never happened. Thanks for this trip down memory lane.

When Erik Larsen was good.

Yes--- around that period, Scott McDaniel was taking MAJOR bites off Miller's style. This stuff looks like it's a little earlier than that stuff.

Larsen was better Spider-man artist than Mcfarlane ever was.

This was one of my first Spidey storyarcs. Peter David was petty for his response.

90s action fluff as I call it, more sizzle than steak. Enjoyable for what it is. Kind of like a vapid action popcorn movie. I'm probably more with David on this. Hulk should not be losing to any of these jokers.

Erik Larsen has to be the worst artist of that era. Terrible.

AGREED.But,what makes this worse is he's still drawing like this. LOL.Been drawing comics for what-20/30 yrs ??? Hasn't improved his art at all, just hit the stagnant button. Even Jim Lee has improved and changed his art-work over the years. And the same goes for Rob also.
