I still "mark out" to Mr. E.P when I tell people about the 2 classes we drove to long ago when I think Josh was training mornings or days I think in O.C, CA 👍 I think they were getting complaints by neighbors because that was supposed to be an industrial place ! LoL ^^^ Or my friends were lazy and lied to not keep going. Nonetheless , it was even harder to be an alpha or sigma in those days and Mr. E.P was ahead of His time. and I heard He's 5'11" tall? I'm huge and E.P would whoop my ass. WoW the nostalgia has me like when dudes on roids are coming down 😿

Rules always dictate the training. I've had the good fortune of train with 3 different old school Judo sensei that where known for their ground work. I was well able to hold my own on the mat with BJJ guys because of that. However my mentality was self defense. I didn't care about tapping someone. I fell that if I was able to roll with at rained fighter I could certainly defend myself on the street against an untrained fighter. I once heard it said that 99% of fights go to the ground. If that statement is true then 100% start standing. I think Judo is well equipped with the necessary techniques to deal with any domestic one on one habitual act of physical violence from an untrained and even trained attacker. Haven worked in NYC night clubs for close to 20 years I ca say that all altercations started standing and if someone fell or was knocked down they mele lead to that person being stomped and kicked. All martial arts have something to offer giving a certain situation. God bless all who train in whatever art you train.

Had the pleasure of training with Erik and his disciples as a student of the then New York City based Danny Suarez. It was an honor I’ll never forget.

Judo is a great martial art and prior to the UFC an Olympic level Judoka would have been one of the most capable people in a real fight. Sure it has its weaknesses but few people prior to the development of MMA would have been able to exploit those weaknesses.

I honestly don't have anything against sport BJJ but I absolutely despise pulling guard! I think training on the ground gives you a sense on how to survive a certain phase of combat! But based on the fact that sport BJJ dismisses takedowns and pulls guard is completely unrealistic! Judo however although a combat sport as well has way more to offer in my opinion! Complete and total body strength, impeccable balance, the use of the ghee which can be used as a self-defense weapon, ukemi the art of falling properly and injury prevention which is huge in the martial arts that most Styles don't offer or focus on and yes throwing directly into a submission with a sense of urgency! I cannot figure out how or why BJJ is more popular than Judo? But all in all I think Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are a perfect cross training plan for grappling

As they said in the video, it's all about intensity. Some days you always go for the kill and others you can work on your defence in Jiu-Jitsu. People are generally lazy and will prefer to go hard at a constant pace which you can't in Judo.

@@SimonBriz I simply despise pulling guard in the grappling martial arts! I think it is about as effective for someone as applying tennis to your Martial Arts! Not to mention I think it is very unmanly and cowardly! Pulling guard is what a puppy does when you spank it with newspaper after it pissed on the rug! Take guardpulling out of BJJ and add a better base with takedowns from wrestling and Judo and now we're talkin BJJ being effective and entertaining! but as long as ibjjf has that guard pulling but flopping coward's way of grappling I don't have anything good to say! Number 1 bring back leg attacks in Judo and number 2 take guard pulling out of BJJ completely and make these martial artists work for their takedown! BJJ is a ground grappling martial art and some motherfuking takedowns for Christ's sake!

@@williambreen4290 I Say to my students, in a street fight or when you defend a love one, you will never pull guard, you will have to throw the punch or go straight for the take down. I absolutely agree 100% with you.

@@SimonBriz this is not directed at you by the way sir I'm just making a general point. I think guard pulling and Sport BJJ is giving men and women a false sense of security! For example I have a female relative who is taking sport BJJ and cardio boxing and she thinks she is the shit LOL both of those disciplines are a waste of her time and are going to get her hurt because there is no real Combat application it is only on the surface and it is just a goofy way for people to make money off of others and I really don't appreciate it. I think guard pulling is something that you will do if you want to get yourself killed LOL I personally say that martial artist start acting like adults and practicing arts that will save them from danger not playing a bunch of Boy Scout big kid Sports like ibjjf BJJ! that have nothing to do with real trouble. I still think some of the original Brazilian families that have schools all over the world that emphasized self-defense as well as ground grappling and don't dilute it into a sport are still absolutely awesome! like the Gracie family of course as well as the Machado and fadda lineage are excellent resources. But if I go to a BJJ School and people are just starting from their knees and pulling guard and there is no takedown strategy or any brake falling practice or technical stand-up or self-defense I get the hell out of there and quick! One thing I hate doing is wasting my time and these goddamn sport BJJ academies are like Starbucks now they're on every corner! Don't get me wrong I do see the value in training from the guard position and I think it is exclusive and unique to Brazilian jiu-jitsu in contrast to the other grappling Arts and it is not only beneficial it is necessary! However it is a consequence to be in that position and should not be a proactive approach LOL if I get taken down buy a single or double leg attack or if I get thrown or swept then okay I know that I trained for that position and I'm ready and I'm good with that but I'm not going to approach another adult and then lay down my ass LOL it is just absurd! and I don't know the history of how or why that started?
