I am getting close to finishing the Islay Whisky Marathon. I began in the south end with Ardbeg and I am now finishing it with Bunnahabhain. I'll be moving on to miscellaneous whiskies next followed by sherried whiskies. But, I'll probably do another Islay Whisky Marathon in 2021.

This had to be my best bftb whisky last year by a long shot. Was able to get 2 of them thankfully at a very reasonable rate ($110 cdn = 79 US). Absolutely a banging whisky and I’m not normally much of a fan of peaters with sherry in the mix. Best Laph I’ve had since the 2015 Cairdeas. I’ve already finished off a bottle of this and regret not getting more (here they sold out in about a week for the entire province last Nov.). Great review again Erik!

Yes, this was a very very rare example of a desirable excellent whisky at a reasonable price here in Ontario. I managed to scoop up 4 of them at two different stores locally within a day of each other as I knew they would disappear quickly. Now if only they would release the 10 cask strength for a change.

Robert Zemko don’t get your hopes up on the 10CS as no part of Canada has ever had it. I doubt they ever will too when they are getting away with charging so much for the basic 10yo. I managed to get my Cairdeas online. None made it to any of my local shops so I was glad to have grabbed them in the mere 3 or so hours they were available to everybody online.

Great review. Thanks for explaining your rating system -- what you mentioned have already improved my evaluation of tasting whisky. How do you think this Cairdeas ranks with other cask strengths Laphroaigs? I first tried this when I visited the distillery last summer after a tour -- but I couldn't remember much about it (probably due to the other two tastings that were offered were the Lore and the CS 10). Later I was lucky enoght to get a swapped sample from Mike Whisky Reviews and I was surprised on how good it was. I managed to get ahold of several bottles and did a side-by-side with the cask strength Laphroig 10, 10th edition. CS 10's s are one of my top 5 five whiskies - but I preferred the Cairdeas. It may have been due to the fact I've been drinking a lot of CS 10 lately and the Cairdeas was something different. Several years ago I did a comparison with the Cairdeas Quarter Cask (cask strength) with the 8th edition CS10 - that time the CS 10 seemed to be the much better expression - so who knows? And I agree that price point is a major plus-- I can get the Cairdeas Triple Wood Original Cask Strength for $80.00 here in NJ. Ardbeg special releases and Lagavulin 12's start at $150.

@@paulcorrona3564 I haven't seen any recently. Saratoga Wine Exchange in NY had them for a while, long after they were gone off the shelves of my local stores, but they no longer carry it. Saratoga Wine Exchange can be a good place to get the past years' special edition whiskies, but there Laphraoig prices tend to be high.

Yes, it is at cask strength and I have tried it with water and ice (I almost always do off camera). I have not compared it with the regular bottle.

Great Review! I really like this one too, and I also agree with the US price range! 😉 I was able to find a bottle awhile back, but this one is harder to find than previous Cairdeas releases, which tells me it’s either very popular or not as many bottles were imported into the US as with prior releases.
