I didn’t know much about Erin before the Las Vegas shooting. In the aftermath of that shooting, I found myself gravitating toward watching her coverage because you could feel the empathy and compassion she had for the victims, their families and the heroes of that night. I have come to see her as a no nonsense journalist/ media personality who tells it straight from the heart and who is incredibly intelligent and a delight to watch her show. This vlog was very interesting as to how she followed her roots back to the “old country”. Very well done.

Nice connection... I live in Plockton, which is just about six miles from the Skye bridge. There’s something really edifying about people coming back to Scotland from where their folk left generations ago and feeling that connection to the people who came before them and just as importantly, to the place itself. It’s an old saying but an apt one I think ,as it comes from a poem/song called the Canadian Boat song, which was apparently sung by immigrant Gaelic “Voyaguers “ as they rowed along the St Lawrence river. “ The blood is strong and the heart is Highland and we in dreams behold The Hebrides”

Just got back from the Isle of Skye. Erin Burnett and I are distant cousins through the Stewart clan. I actually contacted Ronald MacDonald, one of my kinsmen on the video, about meeting him, and he asked that I come to Portree. Since our hotel was about 40 minutes away, I could not do this. As it fell together our tour bus passed through there, but we only stopped for a few minutes for a bathroom break. At any rate, the Isle of Skye was a highlight of my trip to Scotland and Ireland, especially since my 3x great grandmother originated there.

This is how learning about and celebrating your ancestry is done. It is not to feel more special than anyone else, or more purebred” or blue blooded or racially superior.. it is about walking a humble path through personal discovery. Creating a sense of grounding, and contact, unity , respect, tribute, fellowship and heart. It’s a personal journey that reveals one is never really alone on this earth. We are family. My heart aches for being unable to talk in person to the past and future generations who walk the earth at different times than us, but it truly breaks for those whose ancestral record was stolen by acquisition, exploitation, enslavement and greed. Those of us fortunate enough to be able to descend into these old attic trunks should always keep perspective on the pain felt by those who cannot; it must be such a hollow grief that cries across generations of erasure and indignity and theft. bless you Erin for taking a meaningful humble loving approach to finding your roots. I got weepy with you and your Uncle Buzz. How bittersweet. ❤️
