How many women have been killed in Australia by their former partners this year??? But yeah sure it's a 'woman problem'. I mean, how dare they charge the man who actually lit the fire and prevented first responders from saving his kids. Unbelievable

I'm a single Dad now in my mid60's. I have three grown children, 2 men and a beautiful daughter. All of us have experienced multiple DV trauma perpetrated by women. Two of us have reported these matters to the Police, myself and a son didn't when we should of but had experiences of Police turning up and going straight to the female as if it had to be a male perpetrator. This reflects the stats ie many (around 70%) female initiated/perpetrated DV incidents; are not reported by men.The terrible/worst DV incidents ie murder, are PREDOMINANTLY a small % of men snapping. Both sexes, yes only two, need to be included in all conversations about DV as Erin is rightly pointing out. This terribly complicated issue needs to be addressed in state wide public forums and not be hijacked for political or financial gain by any influencers. Open and direct dscussions for all. My kids and I have spent decades in trauma counseling learning to cope with our realities. How dreadful that as Dad I couldn't protect them as I know now I could have done. That's part of what we need to discuss and teach others.

Are you confusing masculine with assertive? Or are you confusing self-respect for arrogance?? Does 'respect' mean dominance to you instead of seeing the value of and having the same regard for other people as you do for yourself irrespective of the way you perceive their status, race, or gender? You realise that a person's gender shouldn't be a deciding factor on how much sh#t they're expected to tolerate? I'm assertive but not masculine, well... except for the swearing, that can be considered a masculine trait. I think perceptions are important and sometimes it's important to question them.

Women need to look at their role in these situations as well. Why does a woman go with a man who is violent towards her? We aren't allowed to ask. Women seek out drama and chaos. They find the 'nice guy' boring. Did he go from the most caring and loving man in the world to an abusive monster overnight? No he didn't. They often defend the abuser, cover for them or downplay the abuse. If they do leave an abusive relationship often they will go right back after 5 minutes or hook up with someone else who will treat them the same way. It happens all the time. Let me be clear I do not defend abuse of any sort but women need to take some accountability for how the ended up in such a relationship. Of course women are never accountable for any poor decision they make.

You’re correct. If a male doesn’t vet a female partner properly and she turns out to be a horror story, then society blames the male for being a fool and an idiot who should be accountable for his poor choice. But if a female doesn’t vet her male partner properly and he turns out to be horror story, then society views her as a downtrodden victim who doesn’t need to be accountable for her poor choices. The fact that the first 2 people to respond to your post claim that “you need schooling” and that you “need to get a grip” demonstrates how utterly biased our society is to this accountability imbalance.

Stop shacking up & stop doing it with abusive men! If you do not know the man enough to know that he is abusive, then why are you shacking with them in the first place? I believe a review of the family law courts and child support systems would greatly reduce the levels of frustration in men - removing them further from the triggers that push them over the edge. I have two daughters to two mothers (they both cheated on me by the way) - I pay $500/ftnt to the mother that has 75% custody of the 16 yr old. I have 100% custody of the 10 year old and her mother owes me $519 for THE ENTIRE FINANCIAL YEAR...where is the fairness in that? Now - don't get me wrong - I love my girls and do all I can for them regardless of how I was treated by their mothers (I ended up in therapy from the financial and emotional abuse I received at the hands of one of them in particular) but I can understand the fine line many fathers balance on and how just a little push can be enough to lead to irrational behaviour. Vote ONE NATION - Pauline gives a shit about dads.

What a great segment. It really highlighted some of the cultural issues and challenges with DV. I've no idea why there's such abdication of social responsibility from some Australian men in challenging attitudes or behaviours in their mates that compliment or underpin DV. It seems everyone these days want to be seen as a mentor, a leader, or 😬 an 'influencer'🙄🙄. Except when the topics are challenging or deeper than superficial. Maybe men are scared of the conversations because they've no idea how to have them... Or how to deal with a mate who might become defensive or combative? I think there's a lot of fear around the whole topic for men. At least, that's what I've observed anyway. There seems to be a hell of a lot of assumptions and confusion, but no one wants any kind of ownership. I admire your work on this topic. Those two guys seem really uneducated about the issue.
