Hi Erin! My biggest concern is doing and taking on a workload and simply not getting paid. Do you do partial pay at the beginning or simply trust that they will with your contract?

That's a totally valid fear. In my 12 years of doing this, I've been stiffed twice, both were for one-off projects and not long term clients. I now have a policy that if I agree to any short term of one-off things (like video editing, for ex), I ask for 50% payment upfront. Otherwise, all my long term clients have been great about payments. You can also ask clients for their credit card details before you start working together. In the event that they don't pay for your first month, you can inform them that you'll be running their card for the amount on your invoice.

Here in the Philippines, 15 dollars per hour is more than enough, but the problem is communicating with the client.

Totally understand that! When you say "communicating with clients," do you mean telling your clients about your rates or communicating across time zones?

I actually can’t speak to these as I’ve never done one myself! Like anything - take stock on their offerings and ask yourself if you have an interest in the topics, if you think there’s a demand for the skill, and then make time to commit!
