Advanced Geometry Nodes course: www.canopy.gam...
Grab the beginner course: www.canopy.gam...
In this advanced course you'll learn more high level approaches to procedural modeling, UV unwrapping and creating tools. You'll learn about SDF workflows with the Volume Cube node, how to get the most out of the Shortest Path nodes, and how to use the accumulate node to position objects along a spline. The main exercise covers the full creation of a Live Root Bridge built in a scalable way.
I hope you enjoy the course!

Hi! I have enjoyed the course, and am just about done with it! I do have a quick question: I ran into a problem when trying to realize instances on my leaves (I'd love to learn to use geometry nodes to create objects for a game). When I realized instances on my leaves, they just completely disappeared. Any idea what could cause that? I turned down their density significantly in case it was a memory limit or something, but that didn't seem to change anything. Thanks again for the course. The *only* recommendation I would have that would improve it would be if comments were available on individual videos. I know that would increase the work you would need to do in responding to everyone, though, so I understand! It was an awesome course, and I feel like I can do so much more with geometry nodes now!
@Erindale
@Erindale Жыл бұрын
That's strange with the leaves... Feel free to drop me an email or message on discord so I can help you walk through the issue a bit better. I am currently working on my own platform so I can do things like comments with pictures per video etc. I think that's very important as well
@tuxgirl
@tuxgirl Жыл бұрын
@@Erindale Hmm... Well, I went to prep the file to send to you in an email, and now the leaves aren't disappearing any more. My computer must have just been feeling lazy or something! :) If the issue re-occurs, I'll email you, but for now I guess it is working fine. Thanks again for an awesome class!

Enrolled the course and went through the sessions this week. Amazing! Learned a lot! :) Don't know if it is possible and if this is the right place, but I have a question about the session in which the trunk is created. I have far more (too much!) splines coming out of "the trunk". The epsilon of the compare node, which is used to control the capture attributed factor, is removing tree trunks when setting it further down, but is not reducing the numers of "first branches". How to controle these?
@Erindale
@Erindale Жыл бұрын
Are you using the merge by distance to reduce the number of splines? Maybe adjust the merge distance
@SanderEwen

Man what a tutorial, and pretty complex, sometimes I understand it more when looking at it a 2nd or 3rd time but even then... Also the volume to mesh and mesh to volume trick is awesome! A question: How to loop for x times a certain action? I want a certain displacement but need to loop it x times to make it look like growing. Is this possible? In code it would be something as: For y=1 to x , action part, next Thanks Erin!
@Erindale
@Erindale Жыл бұрын
Hmm if it's something you want to have repeating then at the moment the best thing is to put your nodes into a group and just duplicate the group

Excellent explanation. I would like to ask you a question. I have 1000 leaves and I want to allocate a material (sprout, green leaves, yellow leaves and dry leaves), by percentage. For example, 5% dry leaves, 25% yellow leaves and the rest green leaves, all random. How could I do it with procedural or geometric nodes?
@Erindale
@Erindale Жыл бұрын
It's hard to do a parallel weighting like that but you could just use something like separate geometry set to instance with a random boolean. And then allocate materials to each section that way and rejoin. 0.05 to separate 5%, 0.26 of the 95% to get a 25% cut, 0.36 to get another 25% cut of the remaining 70% etc
@JoseMartinez-iq3xq
@JoseMartinez-iq3xq Жыл бұрын
@@Erindale I figured the solution would be separate. But as there is a way to select objects with select random where I can include a percentage of objects to select in blender, I could make an extension of that function to the nodes.

Tried getting the pre-order last week, missed it because I misread that it was inclusive of the Sunday and ummed and aahed too long. Didn't realise there was a launch week discount until Saturday about an hour before midnight, had internet issues just before ordering and by the time I got through the discount was over. ☹ Can't currently justify the full £60 (£10 tax), so I guess the world is telling me it's not for me at present. Hopefully finances will improve and I'll be able to get it in the future. In the meantime, I hope you get plenty of people signing up for it. 😃

So, I dropped out of Blender for 8 months and I'm finally getting back to it. I am on the UV Unwrapping course and I am stuck because there doesn't seem to be an option to convert generic attributes to UV in the current version of blender. Do you know of any work arounds or anything that could prevent this from happening? Tried searching around but I'm struggling to find anything useful.
@Erindale
@Erindale Жыл бұрын
In the current versions, you just need to set your Store Named Attribute node to 2D Vector and it should automatically write into a UV channel

Sorry to bother you again, but maybe you know, guru Erin ;-) - creating shape keys within GN? Is that possible?
@Erindale
@Erindale Жыл бұрын
You can store shape keys as a vector attribute with python really easily and then just use them in geo nodes
@SjonSjine
@SjonSjine Жыл бұрын
@@Erindale Sorry that's to complex for me. I was hoping to create the shape keys inside GN, iteration 10, so every updated (displaced) mesh creating his own new shape, so 10 shapes after executing GN. Then I could use the created shapekeys outside GN....maybe something for GN V3.0 ? ? Anyway, thank you Erin!!

If you use the accumulate node with cubes you generate on the fly within geometry nodes instead of pre existing objects of various sizes, you probably won't give me any information that I can actually use in the real world.

I'll do a KZbin session on getting bounding box info for collections at some point. It's super easy once you know how. Just takes a bit of passing around data and that's a bit too in depth and hacky for a course course. More specialised random bits like that is better for KZbin / patreon
