I just want to say as a lash tech who specializes in lash lifts THANK YOU for talking about how to use the lash curler properly. I have countless clients who use lash curlers and I can always tell because they have chopped off lashes at random spots and the damage is insane to the point where we just tell everyone to never use them because they're never used properly. Seriously, thank you.

By any chance, do you know any less rounded lash curlers, or maybe it's a mistake in my technique? I used both Tarte and Revlon. When I try to go closer to the roots, they would pinch my actual eyelid skin in the corners, with a middle still being about 1/8 inch up from the roots, and I end up with a curl starting at about a third of a lash away from the base.

My personal ideal lashes are long and dark and thin and clean looking, so I always prefer the lengthening and stay away from volumizing formulas. I so appreciate you making the distinction between which products are better for different preferences rather than assuming everyone wants the same outcome. My eyes are a little close together so I curl my lashes at an angle outward toward my temples, and aim for a sweep rather than a tight curl, so they're long and swoopy.

@@erinparsonsmakeup I’d have loved to hear a bit about WHY waterproof mascaras function so differently than not waterproof versions - meaning, talk about how waterproof formulas include waxes and film forming ingredients that lock in the curl, and they have no water/water-based ingredients, that cause a curl to drop (or reform a curl after straightening). A tidbit of info that would really help viewers bring the whole message together and understand why mascaras work in different ways. Shiseido eyelash curler is one of the best eyelash curler out there. It fit the eyes perfect and their partial eyelash curler is even better it gets in the corner where you cannot. It's interesting how in every country how we do our makeup. In Korea, there is something we called 'fire straightener' which you take a stick or skewer and heat that up, and you curl your lashes like that, I don't exactly know how to explain cause English is not my first language if anyone is interested you can do your own research, but this helps the lash to last longer, it like styling your hair with heat, cause eyelash is also hair

A good way to curl your lashes I learned in FX school, when your terrified of lash curlers like I am, you can use a warm spoon to lift them up. When I do my lashes I like using the tip of the wand to get into the inner corner lashes. I love sculpting the lashes to where it looks natural but also how I would draw them on if I was doing an illustration. Combing through the mascara if there is noticeable clumps. I get asked if I wear falsies all the time 😝 Makeup really is an art.

@@AlisonInCT1971 the obvious false lashes are meant to look obvious, some people like that style on themselves. It's a more theatric style, similar to really blinding cheek highlighters, intense colorful blushes that can even be colors natural blushes aren't (yellow blush for instance) and unnatural eyeshadow colors like blue and so on. That said, I'd personally go crazy if I had to wear false lashes. I can barely wear rings on my fingers, it took me a lot of active training to get used to wearing lipstick as an older teen, and I have a hard time dealing with the feeling of thicker foundation on skin. I am pretty impressed with how people can wear any natural or unnatural false lashes, even though I know it feels very different to them than me.

Hiya Erin! Tried all these techniques, my lashes are hopeless at this age, 63. Lost my thick, straight lashes during MEANopause😕, haven’t had any luck since w/ mascara. There was a Korean one I loved back about 20 yrs called “Fairy Drops” that actually started to keep them curled even after removal; then it disappeared from Sephora (still on Amazon but don’t recall which one!) When in my 20s-30s I wore false lashes all the time, now can’t be bothered. However, found Kiss Falscara system to work really well for me. I’ve always put lashes on under lashes not on my lid (much more comfy, doesn’t feel heavy) & these are designed to work that way, last 10-14 days & best of all I’m not allergic to the glue! Since my eyes are more hooded now, I can use the shorter lashes & it really opens my eyes; I even use the ones for the bottom lashes. No mascara needed! Thanks for the Milani liner suggestion, I’m going to try it as *everything* winds up under my eyes even if it’s waterproof, likely eye anatomy (big, round eyes, deep set), so frustrating! @laroopanda Жыл бұрын
Hey! Former makeup artist here, and found your comment and thought I could add some helpful info re dry oils. They were kinda a precursor to the current cleansing balm formula that is really popular now. Back when I used to work for MAC, they had a great one and also did travel sizes in the MAC Minis that was so fab. Shu Uemera definitely pioneered this dry oil formula for the western market and then cleansing balms essentially took over. But the concept is the same, in that it's an oily formula that you rub in, then water breaks it down into a milky texture that rinses off easily. Either a balm or dry oil with a Makeup Eraser cloth is gamechanging for makeup removal and I literally never use makeup wipes any more because these two things exist. Hope you enjoy whatever new thing you might try! I personally use the Elemis Cleansing Balm now which is a bit of a splurge item, but lasts forever, turns oily easily without clumps and smells divine. Hope this helps!

I have stick straight thin lashes like yours, and over the years I’ve learned how to get a proper curl out of mine just from trial and error. While watching your video, I realized all of your tips are exactly what I’ve learned!! It’s soooo so true! I don’t use false extensions but they look so stunning despite how subtle they are. It’s completely true that any non-waterproof or non-wax formula totally destroys any curl in my lashes, so I only use waterproof formulas also. The L’Oréal voluminous waterproof formula is great but I’d say the L’Oréal Voluminous Lash Paradise waterproof is my top favorite; I’ve gone back to it again and again. It does get clumpy but I’m one of those people that likes a little bit of clump. Something else I do is I take the applicator of my mascara and just lightly brush it against the very tips of my lashes to make them look a bit longer, that way I’m not just coating the base and mid length of my lashes. Perfect tutorial - thank you Erin!!!

Erin I really loved this one. And KUDOS for letting us in on the drugstore brands. I get so nervous watching you with all the tools near your eyes 😅. It only makes me marvel at you being a makeup ARTIST … I’m nervous doing my own eyes 😂 Living for the Long Lash

Is this the most helpful makeup video on KZbin? Probably. Thank you Erin!
@almamoreno3527 Жыл бұрын
A couple years ago I found a KZbinr (I can’t remember her name!) and her tip was to take a lighter through the curler and warm it up and then curl your lash.. she compared it to a curling wand for your hair. I’ve been doing it ever since and I love it! I never hear anybody else talk about this tip and I was wondering why? I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

A shot from the hair dryer works. I imagine that a flame would add soot and maybe get too hot?

Girl, I used to use a hair straightener to fix my clumpy lash ends so I could curl them up, but also melt/take off mascara and coat them nicer lol. Such a silly teenage move. xD Your method sounds much more reasonable.

Ppl have been doing that tip for decades. One problem with people often end up burning themselves and scorching their lashes.

I had seen that eyelash comb several times but I never knew what it was for, as soon as I saw your video, I literally ran to buy it 😅 My eyelashes are almost non-existent and curled inwards at the ends, so I followed the tutorial and am delighted with the result.❤

I had a question about curly lashes and of course you answered it perfectly. So I deleted it, but I wanted to tell you how much I love those earrings. You look fabulous in everything but those are stunning.

Now im experimenting again and actually look forward to applying my makeup! Thanks to you i was also able to take my vintage collecting into the makeup department. I was at an antique store and bought a revlon les couturine lipstick for only $20! I also found a reich asch deere art deco pink powder tin. Thank you Erin!

Starting at the tip will make this "new" way of curling my lashes easier, thank you! In 1991, another girl showed me how to "curl" my lashes and I never questioned the hard crimp at the roots and I never wondered if there was another way to curl my lashes. Until earlier this week, and I'm shocked that I accepted this for 33 years.

5:23 I have a similar lash comb/spoolie from Crown and I like to bend the spoolie so it's easier to comb the lashes (or brows). The metal comb is also FANTASTIC for combing thru & removing any hairs or fuzz that gets stuck in spoolies.

Ive only ever done my upper lashes, because I have almond shaped, small eyes. So I feel like putting only mascara on my upper lashes makes them look bigger. Lauren Bacall is my idol, and I try to copy her style, and her lashes always looked like only the upper lashes were done. Thank you for this!! PS….if you can do a false lash tutorial for the inept…I would love it….Im awful at applying false eyelashes, but I love them!!
