I enjoyed Tom & Jerry as a kid, but even I had to admit it was rather difficult. The most I've ever gotten was the Tom boss fight in the chimley, I think. I love the 8bit arrangements of Scott Bradley's iconic score.

I loved Tom & Jerry as a kid, played it to completion a few years ago and still loved it. Agreed that it's hard as hell, but once you get out of the basement and into the house proper it has a really fun "tiny mouse in a big world" feel. The bosses are huge for an NES game. And the soundtrack (from chiptune legend Tim Follin) is frantic genius. Way underappreciated gem from a typically low-tier developer.
@BorsaMANIAC2 жыл бұрын
it is a good game indeed, although i'm not really sure i was able to beat it because it becomes pretty tough as it progresses. And yeah, the confusing levels were indeed an issue, but because I was young, there were few games to play and no internet to "just download more" or money to "buy more" games so I was constantly coming back to this game (and others i had) to try and beat again. If I tried the game now I would've just picked some other game to play because playing "where the fuck do I go" kind of games just became tiring for me. Not mostly because I became older, but because it's way too easy to pick something else to play nowadays, and you can actually watch videos/streams of psychos who actually decided to play those games and recorded it.

Glad to see you back, Erin! That Tom & Jerry (and whoever else™) game seems poorly planned (and I too hate platforms that look like background and vice-versa), but it looks really good for an NES game! It's the type of game that should really be salvaged by a hacker/modder.
@jeremylovesretro2 жыл бұрын
It's probably nostalgia goggles because I owned it as a kid, but I like Harley's Humongous Adventure. It's definitely not S-tier or even close, but I think it's a serviceable platformer. Two things I noticed in your gameplay that could improve your experience are: 1)You can throw your weapons straight upward. Just hold up and press attack. I noticed you attacking enemies horizontally by jumping up to their height. Just get under them and launch your projectile upward. 2)In the tank stage, your problem with the enemies not lining up with the tank's weapon could be alleviated by adjusting the height of the cannon. You can aim higher or lower, down to level. I believe this is done via up and down on the d-pad but I can't remember offhand. If you raise the barrel and jump to get those projectiles to hit near the edge of the screen, that level is a cake walk. Anyway, there are a couple of quality-of-life adjustments that I hope encourage you to give HHA another try. Fun video! Thanks!

The criticisms on the T&J game are quite fair, it leads to an inital bad impression due to a lot of trial and error. I did enjoy it though, in particular because for a relatively low-key NES game, it did incredibly well in having fitting scenery related to the cartoon and good progression; there's just no repetition at all and many of the areas look rather believable, which is astounding for an NES game of this type. Good controls, decent challenge, good variety, not too frustrating gimmicks, and the music [although kinda weird, but in a good way] is also pretty great.

Luckily I didn't play 4 of bad Hi-Tech developed games. Although I liked the Tom and Jerry NES game I got in form of the typical yellow cartridge for a Famiclone console back in the end of the 90's. I had to practice quite a few times to get to the more distant levels, such as a living room with a real NES game console as a background object, a level with drill-breakable walls, and an outdoor level with a giant squirrel enemy. The two different level music alternated one after the level completing, at least I didn't get bored of them. As I looked at the engineer mouse girl on your t-shirt, I remember that I had seen almost every episode of Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers cartoon series on VHS tapes and TV channels. That was a really good Disney series, with the well made hungarian dubs. Gadget Hackwrench got pleasant female voice. 🙂

5:07 I think the reason Barbie and other early Game Boy games played this slow is that the developers were using the Super Game Boy, which sped up the gameplay by 2.4% faster. That is why some games like "The Catlevania Adventure" are hated by some people, but if they played these games on Super Game Boy it was easy to miss these problems. I had lots of Game Goy games but I always used my Super Game Boy, rather than buying a old Game Boy, then buying batteries or an adapter for it. Super Game Boy allowed me to save video on VHS so I could show my friends my accomplishments which was much more important to me. This problem was fixed for the Super game Boy 2, but only for Japan.
@ErinPlays2 жыл бұрын
Ah that’s interesting, maybe. I did use a Super Game Boy 2 to play this though so who knows
@Lilolordinaryme2 жыл бұрын
Check out voltar's you tube channel. The super game boy did have a different crystal which made it faster. If affects games differently, some slower is better including music, The Barbie ones not so much. I think you're correct in your assumption. Voltar talks about the speed difference and a very novice and cheap mod you can buy to fix the clock speed issue which i did but gameboy games developed using orginal supergamboy will run only slower. 😬

- I have fond memories of Tom and Jerry when I was a kid, but I'm sure today I'd find it incredibly frustrating. There was also a Tom and Jerry game on DOS by Hi-Tech, which I could never properly understand. It was all about playing as Jerry and using scenery to fight Tom, but I don't remember it as well as the NES one. - Well, I don't see what's weird about Monsters in my Pocket having a kitchen level when the whole deal is that they're tiny, pocket-sized monsters. - I've always found interesting how it's clear that the developers don't really have many ideas because they just have everything and everyone around you work as an enemy. Apples dropping from trees, bouncing balls, random birds, kids in skateboards, etc. Those are all very common threats in generic platformers.
@simonashtear27392 жыл бұрын
Thanks for not taking the low-road and making fun of Megaman 1 & 3 for DOS. A lot of 'Tubers love to jump on the bandwagon and use those games as a punchline. "It's impossible to get through this area without getting hit!" (no it's not, the reviewer just isn't a good player) I legit like those games. They weren't my first exposure, but they were the first Megamans I owned, as a kid. I also had Ernie's Big Splash for my old IBM PC compatible. It was one of the first games I ever played. I didn't know they were all made by the same guy until a few years ago.

"Someday I'd like to dive into the Dos library!" **Thousand yard stare** You really wouldn't... I got the Mega Man 1 and 3 DOS games for my birthday when they came out. They're frustratingly difficult, broken, have no password/save system and despite Mega Man 3 being a sequel, it uses the exact same win screens! Mega Man 3 also has a game breaking glitch in the final level. If you run into it you're hosed, because like I said earlier, no password/save system.
