There really are a lot of great works written in the early half of the 20th century that seem to lie forgotten.

That fourth movement is really beautiful. This channel is amazing, I don't know where you get all these recordings from! I've learnt about so many good composers ever since I found this channel. Thank you very much!

You´re also pretty talented yourself, Gustav. Keep up with the good work, man... (An 11th symphony would be amazing... -just saying-...)

Yeah, I agree with Carlos. But if you stick to conducting instead of that composing stuff, you might make a name for yourself eventually. Although Lenny B. did OK doing both, so give it a try...🙂

These Melartin recordings were released individually and then as a box set on the Ondine label.

Another piece demonstrating (like a lot of the works on this channel) that not all great music was written by composers belonging to the established "canon" of Classical music.

Brucknerian 4th spirit and Sibelians progressions. I'd forgotten the 3ed of Roussel in terms of dynamic and spirit flashback. The final is a deep introspection to the first Sibelian symphony adagio , emotional rising and just at the very "finale"Bruckner rise taking the hand of Erkki like a Hero . Great endeed! Bravo ! Danke

Obra tremenda y apasionada. Se puede percibir la evolución de su autor con respecto a las 2 primeras sinfonías. Obra digna de ser presentada en conciertos y grabaciones como muchas de sus otras piezas.

I am not an analytical left brain oriented person. I can not analyze the oughts, should, ought nots, or should nots of any classical piece of music. I am right brained oriented, experiential, intuitive, subjective in my musical experience. I like intensity, emotionalisim, power, in my choice of music. This piece stirs that as good as anything I have ever heard. I can revisit this work. It is stirring.

Doug Bower Well, may I suggest you get into the right side of your brain a bit of what I believe may well be the greatest-if not one of the greatest,if not pretty damn good anyway-tracks ever created-"Exercise",by the great Rumanian jazz/classical pianist Eugen Cicero. It's 3-and-a-half minutes of sheer brilliance the likes of which the world has not witnessed since Bach was a boy!My number 1 piece of all time.

Once again I agree with Mr Woodall a wonderful piece of music. Melaretin should be played more often in the symphony halls. Would be great background music for film.

Here I am again giving a mixed reaction. Some very stirring moments and amazing orchestration mixed with with too-campy themes and cheesiness. But I should be clear that it is a wonderful gift to be able to explore this and others on this channel so I tip my hat again to Kuhlau.

Because Finland was a country of one genius at a time. only in the recent years interest/respect has shifted to composers others than Sibelius (of the historical composers)

Complessivamente una sinfonia "nazionalista" ,con parecchi riferimenti a Sibelius, soprattutto nei primi tre movimenti.Il quarto movimento è per me quello più interessante e musicalmente più riuscito.

At exactly 15'30” I said to myself ”I stop listening this" and then I find myself an idiot to think that if I do not listen to it until the end, I will be taxed as a sectarian person, but when I have finished writing, I will still stop this void interstellar because I am afraid to lose my neuroses!
