Every time I think about Silicon Valley and hold out hope that he'll somehow return the following season, I remind myself how contentious the grounds were when he left the show and the state Gavin left his character in Tibet. Besides, if Erlich did return, wouldn't he have to be slimmer? He wouldn't be eating and basically be in that opium comatose for the entire length of his sabbatical. Ketosis at its finest.

@@gabrielpollow6029 - You can achieve ketosis by not eating any carbs, but it may take anywhere between one to ten days depending on numerous individual factors like age, BMI, overall health/fitness etc. If Erlich is in a continuous opium induced coma and isn't being given any oral sweeteners/sugars (i.e. powdered sugar that's easily absorbed or swallowed) during his opium streak, he should be burning through fat after a few days because he will have used all of his sugar stores, despite being sedentary. It's sad that this is the last season, but it's better to go out now than over stay your welcome.

Crazy how the writers of the show reflected how they felt about Miller through his character. Pompus, narcissistic, and lazy/addicted. You can see at what odds he was with everyone else in the show at this point.

I would have loved for Erlich to have come back in some way, but plot-wise for the show, he had become dead weight. He no longer coded (except for that brief time when Pied Piper's video platform was taking off), he had no capital to offer since he had pissed away all his money (and Big Head's), and his style of entrepreneurship and negotiation (which was already questionable in its effectiveness from the start) had stopped working. Plus, Russ Hanneman could fill in whatever potential holes that Erlich had left behind. Essentially, Erlich had become Big Head in Season 1: "Great, but useless" and in Dinesh's words, giving Erlich any kind of role in Pied Piper at this point would have been a "huge f**k you" to everyone else involved. Obviously, TJ Miller had become a problem and he needed to go, but I think the writers wrote him out of the show in a way that made a lot of sense. And he honestly really wasn't friends with anyone in the group (Richard was probably the closest thing he had to a friend), so it makes sense that his goodbye was underwhelming. Erlich started out in the show as a loser, and he left it as one.
