Ernestine is assuredly missed, by me in particular. I have seen and heard her around the world, LA, London, and New York she was sensational in every place. She really deserved that Grammy which she was nominated for, she was one of the Jazz greats actually. I love her eternally.

I saw her in Sweden in the summer 1956 ,she was 28 ,together with Cecil Payne, Bs , Duke Jordan, P, John Simmons , B , Art Taylor Dr and the band leader Rolf Ericson Tp . A lovley evening.

Superb post of legendary Ernestine Anderson so young and vibrant truly an all time great, thankfully Ray Brown got the great singer going again in the 70'sthen followed a string of classic Concord albums each being a masterpiece, seeing Ernestine a number of times 1995 on each time a thrilling experience, last Jazz Bakery appearance a seated Ernestine still had it going on & got her to autograph "Love Makes The Changes" a cherished possession...RIP great lady, you are greatly missed

JUst love this, love the trio and she was the greatest. Had the pleasure of seeing her at the Jazz Showcase in Chicago. She sat and sang, was pretty old. But man she sang great. Got an album autographed. Thanx so much for posting this.

The drummer here is not Billy Higgins but a great English drummer Kenny Clare. Great concert, thank you for sharing!

I think you are right. Why are the credits so much in dispute? Someone has posted a fragment of this event on youtube, "I want a little boy" and has incorrectly named the pianist as Mike Renzi. And many viewers have pointed out the error, while the posting client keeps staunchly defending the credits he gave!
@vova478 жыл бұрын
Well, he was confused by the beard Monty had and he and Mike Renzi do look a bit alike from a far, though they certainly don't sound alike.

No, there's 6 songs. One shouldn't overlook a beautiful ballad by Johnny Mandel "A Time For Love" 2:57

Love the Percy Mayfield piece, "send me somebody to love". This is a beautiful contrast to Ernestine's sweet performance of same on youtube with George Shearing.

Thejazzsingers Jazz in Holland Thank you for answering. If you ever get to have the concerts she did in San Francisco, please share it too :) there was a group called « the Johnny land trio » (including Martha Wash) who did the opening acts for Ernestine. I would LOVE to listen to them !!!

I thought Billy Higgins was black. Other postings of parts of this same video on youtube name a different drummer.....and a different pianist! They can only agree that it is Ray Brown on bass. Could the drummer be Randy Jones or Kenny Clare?
