Music Man really makes some great basses. All of the 'Rays sound great played finger style. One of the best things they ever did was bring the classic 2 EQ Stingrays back in the Classic series. They have less upper mids/harshness to my ears than modern Stingrays and sound fantastic. Great playing in this video, especially with the Latin music!
@pCeLobster2 жыл бұрын
For a long time they were still making the standard, non-Classic Stingray with the 2 band, which oddly a lot of people didn't know. I got one and in my opinion it's one of the best Stingrays they ever made because it has all the modern advancements that they made with the bridge, body contours, neck, nut, etc, but with the 2 band preamp.

Listening to this in my car stereo system. Sounds incredible! I’m buying this exact bass. Can’t wait! Great playing, great review! Thank you!

Kudos to this man Jayme entertains, plays phenomenally and still spends time to easily explain what he’s after tonewise and why it is better track by track. Humble, empathetic, and straight to the point You know what? I bought an exactly identical black Stingray special 5 right on

How's it play? I'm debating myself over whether I should get an American ultra jazz bass or this bass
@claudiovallese4010 ай бұрын
@@anotakudetective1546 consider a gentle electronic in which trebles don’t hiss and mids don’t gnarl, just add those frequencies right on without giving you the sense of “too much”. The bass control instead gives you an upscaling boost on bottom end while the body keeps a substantial mid fundamental even made out of ash. Ash that’s really light considerin it’s a stingray 5er (around 9lb) with manufacturing stayin top notch in pure musicman style What a stingray 5er has is the 3 position switch gìving you the “attack” in parallel mode (towards the bridge) the “tight” in single mode (centered) and the “boom” in series mode (towards the neck) The thing it has not, compared to a Fender Ultra, is the on/off switch: you can’t turn it passive in case of batteries (2) draining. Hope this helps Cheers

The iconic StingRay tone always sounds fantastic and never gets lost in the mix! It's one of the best multi-genre basses ever made in my opinion!

Love the stingray 5. Love the bite it has on the notes. In the end of the 2nd song. Did you notice the low end tone just kinda dropped out. You couldn't really hear it any more in the mix. What happened?!?

Actually, if you want more body and less treble, you can just switch the pickup to series (yurn the switch closer to the neck)

Wow!!! Adding the PJ PE5....it's sounds bigger in the mix, full, warm, and "crispy" mid-ranges typically from Stingray's!!!☺

You, sir, have a filthy nasty groove! So good n' tasty. Really dig the demos. My Stingray 5 is my favorite playing bass. I just wish it worked for all genres. I play mostly country these days and the Ray snarling around in the mix just doesn't work. Adjust it and it doesn't cut. I've thought about getting an HH flavored one to see if that'd maybe fit better. So far, the P is the money tone there.
@bazZzment Жыл бұрын
I know what you mean. Have you tried it with flats? Ernie Ball Group Flats or Cobalts really do sound good on the Stingray and tame the highs.
@crocholiday Жыл бұрын
@@bazZzment I have. I currently have a set of EB custom flats and I dig them. Some folks swear by TI Jazz Flats. I just got a set for my P/J and dig it on that. They’re spendy so I’m reluctant to try them on my Ray. They may not fit though. The B is a fat sucker at .136! .132 was snug through the bridge and I suspect .136 will require a drill or file 😬, nut will too I suspect.

Jayme… musicman should tribute you something I not only appreciated this (like many other vids of yours) but bought the exact bass right away Man: only differences are you’re such a gifted musician (whom I’m not) and my stingray 5 has chrome hardware instead of satin black… other than that, black with sculpted heel and body profile, roasted maple neck & fretboard 18v preamp and ultra light bridge and machine heads. Go on buddy And go on Raiders (that’s why black & silver stingray for me)

For the latin song I think the bass cut through the mix better before processing. After processing it was buried in the other instruments. At least to my ears.

cutting through the mix isn't always what you want a bass to do.

Though poppa Leo Fender made great historic basses, carried on with brands like Music Man and G&L, the 4 + 1 headstock continues to look ridiculous and really needs to be wholescale changed. But aside from that, this is a great-sounding bass. What's funny, is for the sake of sales, many other bass manufacturers have produced basses with the same ridiculous-looking headstock.
