Ernie is such a down to earth kind of guy. When I was in high school I skipped school to go to Bay Hill for Arnie's tournament. Anyway, I was watching Ernie warm up on the putting green hitting bunker shots. He holed one, chuckled and said he hopes he can do that on the course, then turned to me handed me his sand wedge and said your turn. Needless to say I handed it right back, laughed, and said I don't think so. He started laughing so hard. Cool guy.

What a privilege your audience must have had having that time with you, you are the coolest, slowest swinger of the golf club that we have seen in this game we all love, I have your swing in my mind every time I am about too hit my club, yet now a 67 year old, but hitting the ball further to when I was younger, all because of you, I am too old too swing like tiger or Rory, but I can swing like you, so if an old guy like me can relax throughout his golf swing with results, then you young guy's can learn from Ernie! Many thanks Ernie for taking the time in sharing your strategy in how the golf swing should be! Hope you win a major soon, as I bet on you all the time! Your costing me!

Guys like Ernie and Singh are so underrated, elite players overshadowed by a prime Tiger era and still managed to win some majors.
@calbonar211

Tiger was just so damn good. Nobody can win every single tournament they play in, golf is a very physical game at the end of the day. Once the ball leaves the club face it’s at the will of the world. It might take a good hop or a bad hop. It might hit the flagstick and go in or it might hit the flagstick and bounce into the water. Tiger was able to win 15 fucking majors. It’s just insane how good he was. Dustin Johnson is the greatest talent since Tiger but he’ll never match Tigers dominance on the tour and nobody will ever again. Edit: I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir but couldn’t help myself lol

@@calbonar211 It's especially hard mentally to keep on winning year after year. Remember Spieth starting to become a 'new' Tiger when he threw away four strokes and thus the Masters title. He never really recovered from that.

I never thought about it like that. Makes you wonder what the distribution of say, 10 or 12 of those majors would be, if Tiger were not as dominant as he was.

Harmon plays his role nicely here. He contributes just what he needs to, and let's Els talk the rest of the time. Too many swing instructors never shut the hell up - telling us too much of what we don't need and nothing that we really do need. (Paul Wilson always seems to mention just the essentials - very rare.) Els's wrists are very, very loose. That's what whips the club through the ball so quickly. What is it about these South African golfers and these beautiful golf swings? Good ol' Ernie Els - a terrific guy.

A lot of players have a tendency of gliding the hips instead of rotation them. Therefore, I like to think about the left knee instead of the hips. If you feel like you're rotating around the left knee while stretching out the left leg at impact then you'll automatically rotate the hips instead of gliding them. If you look at all the long hitters DJ, Rory, Rahm etc. they all move the left leg in the same way. Most of the power in the legs goes in a upward motion and not sideward. And the upward power generated by your legs pushing against the ground will then transfer into your swing if done correctly. This is also why players like Rahm can generate so much power with a short backswing, because most of the power comes from how he uses his legs.

Ernie throws the clubhead so well and gets the club back out in front that he doesn't have to jerk snap to get speed. You can clearly see him throwing the clubhead in his rehearsal swings, but in the real swing it's invisible.

I think there's actually a book called "It's the Damn Ball" lol. One thing to keep in mind is that if you look at your practice swing on video, even though the tempo is nice and the power is in the right spot, your clubface is normally way off, which is why when most people go to hit the ball with their practice swing it goes all over hell.

zero snap of the arms in his swings here and when you watch his swing slow mo. 0. Arms "snap" only after weight is transferred to front foot, hips can now rotate and shoulders follow and arms snap as a result of the body rotation - they at least start to have any power at that stage. The easy swing comes from no forced movement of the arms/hands. The more you keep arms and hands quite the better off you will be.
