I'm not a musician but I completely appreciate your message. It applies to so many aspects of life. What we do each day builds the foundation for what is to come. Such a wise and talented man. I'm happy I stumbled upon this video. Thank you.

This is the honest truth about what you have to do to be great artist, and in a nut shell the more skill you have the more practice you have to do to sustain the level of ability that you have, all the best to Ernie I have always loved your playing going back many years since I first heard you play on various albums.

I love this! Wish I had heard it earlier, but I realized his message on my own I guess, 20 years later - practice! Love it now!

This guy is awsome! What he said about practicing 2 hours before work and 2 hours after work "everyday of your life" maid o lot of sense to me! As an amauteur musician who has been playing for a few years only I feel there is no other way to achieve o good development in music e keep it that way!

I totally agree! Great piece of advice BUT you should not get discouraged if you dont practice every day. Sometimes there is no time left due to work or else but also due to the fact that your fed up with your playing. Sometimes it is better to just give it a rest doesnt matter how long it takes you to come back to a consistent practice schedule. The most important thing should be that you feel well while practicing and ideally recognize the process you´re making

I quit for 12 years then finally came back to it because I love the music. Not going to lie though, you never really come back as the same person. You are a new person with a particular past and have to start over in most ways. It's not easy, especially knowing you will never enjoy the bright future you once might have had, but in the end it is about god and music not popularity or money.

The greatest jazz greats would practice much more than 4 hours a day, more like an obsession. Mike Brecker at Indiana University played well before dawn to well after sunset, 'Trane did many many hours a day, Parker was known for enormous practice times, Sonny Rollins was famous for his routine, to name a few. Top names are totally obsessed with their work which is why more people (like you and me) can't be that good.
